Hill on Hillary
The diplomat-in-residence at Yale, Charles Hill served in the State Department as special adviser to Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and George Shultz.
Asked after a recent taping of Uncommon Knowledge how he would rate the present Secretary of State, Amb. Hill gave her qualified praise, explaining that Hillary Clinton represents a much stouter advocate of American interests than the president she serves. In his words:
She's doing a first-rate job with a third-rate agenda.

Re: Hill on Hillary
That is so very ... diplomatic.
The old saw is that "a diplomat is someone who can tell you 'go to Hell' in such a way that you actually look forward to the trip."

Love this line.
Would it be too harsh to say that Condi did a third rate job with a first rate agenda while GW's sec state?

State has a way of destroying people's moral compass, sense of duty, grasp of logic, etc.
I'm sure Colin Powell was a good guy before he went to State. Look at him now.

He's being very kind. To both of them.
Re: Hill on Hillary
Charlie must have savored that line -- praising with faint damns.

Re: Hill on Hillary
It is interesting how some people do grow, isn't it? Look at Leon Panetta, too. He's turned out to show his adult side. I suppose that in both cases it's compensating for the guy (and his close advisers) that they are stuck with. Will Bill or Hillary ever have the sheer guts that it takes to break away from this increasingly more perverse shill? Why can't they let their conscience be their guides for once -- rather than their dreams of power?
Surely Bill, Hillary and Panetta must be reachable eventually. Will we see any major defections as we get closer to the election and Obama gets more and more unstable? How far will his overreach in executive power get? How shrill will he get? How much more uncomfortable will he make his more reasonable colleagues?

Re: Hill on Hillary
Read Bret Stephens piece in the WSJ today, he deals with her job performance "classically".
