Did you ever feel sadness at the news that Reagan's 1986 raid on Tripoli in retaliation for a terrorist attack that killed American servicemen in Germany? Not because of the attack but because of the news that the dictator's infant daughter Hana had been killed?

Turns out it was all a big mistake and the girl not only survived the attack but thrived! I wonder how someone could get confused about whether a daughter was alive or dead, but that's not important. The important news is that she's very much alive and successful to boot.

Gosh. If you can't trust Moammar Qaddafi, who can you trust?

That is good news and yet another object lesson in the secretive nature of an authoritarian society.

Note:  When VDH was in Libya, he asked one of his "handlers" about MQ's daughter who was killed in the raid - apparently she was "adopted" by Qaddafi post-mortem - which was widely thought of as a good poke at the US (given that few didn't know the full story).

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.

There's also the issue that Islam doesn't have "adoption" per se -- I wonder what it means when we refer to Hana -- so blissfully alive, now -- as "adopted."

Sorry, I wrote unclearly - I think the story was that indeed, a young woman was killed, and then adopted (post-mortem)

Well don't I feel like the fool.  I believed it right up until today.

This is a good example though of how the naive and willfully blind western media are exploited by propagandist.  You may remember in 1991 the US was accused by Iraq of bombing a "baby milk factory".  This story stunk to high heaven, since there were signs and labels in english saying "baby milk".  I think people argue about it to this day, but like the infant death story the damage is done long before the facts are made known.
