Remember this?

When President Obama learned in early 2009 that Wall Street bailout recipients were paying out billions in bonuses, he denounced the behavior as "shameful" and "the height of responsibility."  He called on the bailout recipients to "show some restraint, and show some discipline, and show some sense of responsibility."

"There will be time for them to make profits and there will be time for them to get bonuses. Now's not that time," the President declared.

But guess what? Now is that time.  Investor's Business Daily reports that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have doled out $12.8 million in bonuses to 10 executives "for meeting what have been charitably described as 'modest goals.'"

And this is A-OK with the White House.

When asked about it on Tuesday, press secretary Jay Carney washed the administration's hands of the matter. "These entities are independent and therefore they are independent decisions," he said. "The White House is not involved, and nor should it be."

"Independent?  Are they kidding us?" asks Hot Air's Ed Morrissey.

Democrats refused to privatize both entities when they had full control of Congress and the White House.  Instead, they dumped tons of new regulation on Wall Street, where those MBSs got traded, rather than eliminate the government’s ability to manipulate the loan markets in the future in exactly the same way that led to the crisis in the first place.

Where's the outrage? On second thought, don't answer that.

Not to quibble with the Editor, but I think this would be more in the wheelhouse of the Tea Party.

If #OWS were to protest this event, I might give them a little more credence...

It is more and more difficult every day not to be thoroughly, utterly, overwhelmingly repulsed by this administration.  It is so sick and twisted...

I know the OWSers wouldn't find this outrageous. But they really ought to if they want to at least feign consistency.

Oh, but Diane, the story gets SO much better than that:

Freddie Mac reports $6 billion loss for third quarter; asks for $6 billion in federal aid

And that is all you'll read about Fannie or Freddie if you search the WaPo today. No, you won't find a thing about lush bonuses--I learned about that from Politico.

Now I must step away from my computer because the bile is rising in the back of my throat.

No need to apologize, sir.  Sarcasm doesn't translate especially well in print, which is why I try to avoid it. This OWS stuff has me rolling my eyes, though.
