In case you missed it, here's Whole Foods Market CEO John Mackey apologizing for calling Obamacare "fascist".
Now, you know, I know, and Mackey knows that the term is precisely accurate. Obama's co-opting of private enterprise and the regulatory capture of the health care industry are, quite exactly, the preferred tactics of statists of the fascist variety.
Mackey was exactly right. Yet, his correction was completely necessary.
I know some of you don't like my conclusion. We've had this argument before. However, the simple fact is progressive historians, helped by generations of Hollywood villains, have linked fascism exclusively with the racist creed of the Nazi party.
In short, Fascism equals Hitler in the popular mind. Mackey's use of the term is doomed to appear hysterical. (Mackey thinks Obamacare means swastikas and gas chambers? Whaaa?)
There's no way we can fight that. Not now. Fortunately, there's a simple work-around.
The next time you catch yourself about to say "Fascist," just say "Mussolini" instead. It's not Fascist Health Care, it's Mussolini Health Care. It's not Fascist Economics, it's Mussolini Economics. etc., etc.
The wonderful thing is, Mussolini is almost as radioactive as Hitler. So, rub progressive noses right in that unfairness. Your lefty opponent may be thinking that actually, Mussolini wasn't that bad. If he's honest and informed (very unlikely), that's exactly what he'll be thinking. But there's no way he'll ever admit it.
Pay attention to tactics, people. This one will work. It's Alinskyite but--miraculously!--not even dishonest. Use it, you knuckleheads! No need to thank me.
