In November 2008 I held my nose and voted for John McCain.  My wife was unable to compromise her principles and thus stayed home.  Her thinking was that in four years things would be so screwed up that Obama wouldn't possibly be able to win and thus the Republicans would return to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  We're a year and a half away and the Republican list of contenders is just dismal.  It's time to start rating these mooks (I'm used to the system of A being best down to F for flunking out).  A & B is for strong, proud support, C & D are for the nose holders leaving F for the candidate whose name gets left blank on the ballot - I'm going to assume there are other races that will get you to the polls.  Maybe I'm just playing it safe at this point of the race but all my choices right now are C and D grades (heaven help me even Newt and the Huckster are Ds).  Anybody want to play along and make a case for upgrading or downgrading the current crop of mush.

We are in the midst of the quadrennial conservative funk.  What appeared to be a midterm hopeful sign that the GOP could man up and come through has once again crashed and burned.  We thrash about, hopeful that a Rubio or Christie style white knight will magically appear and finaly bring about the beginning of the end for the progressives.

Truth be told, we all know and despair over the story line; Senator Retread or Governor Has-been will be our left over Monday meal.

Having never sat out an election in almost 50 years as a voter, my verdict this time is that they deserve the "F" word as much as the "F" score, but, of course, I'll take my Prilosec and hold my nose, and vote for the Bas----s anyway.

There are always candidates, initiatives, and local options on the same ballot. If you can't vote for the devil or milquetoast with the R for president, you can and should vote for the other items. When it comes to holding one's nose, I always think about foreign policy under an R vs. a D.

What or who will keep me away from the polls on November 6th, 2012...hmmm...only an asteroid hitting the Earth and destroying all life as we know it.

I'll give it a stab:

A's - {crickets chirping}  Of course, if Rubio or Christie were to run...

B's - {competent but not particularly inspiring} Pawlenty, Daniels

B's - {inspiring but a long shot} Cain

C's - {meh.} Romney, Palin, Bachman

D's - {please Lord NO!} Gingrich, Huckabee (don't even get me started on The Huckster}

It never fails to amaze & then depress me how well the Huckster does in the polls.

The one I can't figure out is Pawlenty, in the sense that I don't see what people have against him. What's wrong with Pawlenty?

I will vote Republican even if Daffy Duck was running for President.  Go vote in your primary, too.

Diane:  I can go with your basic structure, but would make several changes.  I love your A's, but it's too early for both.  I like your B's.  I'd move Romney to a B- (though Romneycare is like an anchor around his neck), and Palin to a C+ (she has to be ahead of Bachmann).  Gingrich and Huckabee must move down to D (the party will have to go to purgatory if it nominates either of them), and Trump is thrown into outer darkness as completely unserious.  My former governor, Huntsman, is a D.  He's not really a conservative, and--to advance his career--he worked for "the One."  He's a good looking rich guy who speaks Mandarin Chinese (and that's all).

In the end, I'll vote for any of them over Obama--though I'll likely need hospitalization for dehydration for the D's (excessive vomiting).

I've thought about this as well.  Do people think he's too bland, not enough of a star?

No, no, no, Diane.  Your dog goes to the bottom of the ticket, under Rob Long's dad.

He is boring, un-inspirational, and reminds me of the smartest kid in the class that nobody wants to be friends with.   Mitch Daniels has interesting quirks, like riding a motorcycle across the state.  You can be boring yet still interesting.

Is the question here whom we prefer?  Or is it who is electable?  I'll do it both ways:

Preference:

A,  Daniels, Giuliani, Allen West, Gary Johnson

B. Bachmann, Bolton, Paul Ryan

C. Pawlenty, Christie, Barbour, Romney

D. Gingrich, Huckabee

F. Palin

Electability:

A. Daniels, Allen West

B. Christie

C. Pawlenty

D. Romney, Huckabee

F. Everyone else.

I can’t imagine why anyone would put Palin down in the dumper with Gingrich and Huckabee.  You can hate her for your irrational reasons but she’s not one with those guys.

I would sooner be ruled by all the dogs owned by Ricocheteers than by the faculty of Harvard University - William F Buckley.

And I will crawl over ammonia-soaked broken glass in a eurospeedo to vote against Obama.

I would dance to the polls if I got to vote for Daniels in the general. Many of the other people (Pawlenty, Christie, Barbour) would be fine. I would vote for the Romneybot but with more nausea than enthusiasm. I'm staying home if Palin gets the nomination.
