This Is A Big Deal, Right? Right? Or Not, Like All That Other Stuff.

Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Obama 08, Romney
Romney endorsed by The Des Moines Register. How many more of these things have to happen before this electoral college map starts to look less tragic?

Have faith. It WILL come to pass.
I was rather astounded with the listing of endorsements over the years for the DMR. Seems they were once conservative, but became liberal. And yet anyone who had endorsed Al Gore and now endorses Obama's rival must show that the gig is up.

Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and Colorado will fall to Romney. All other major swing states are in play. Momentum builds.

Joe:
Perhaps the distinguished editorial board of the Des Moines Register were moved by the spirit of Finley Peter Dunne's Mr. Dooley, who loudly proclaimed that, "The newspaper does everything for us. It runs the police force and the banks, commands the militia, controls the legislature, baptizes the young, marries the foolish, comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable, buries the dead, and roasts them afterward."
All kidding aside, in answer to your rhetorical question, "Yes," most certainly, the DMR's endorsement of Governor Romney is a big thing, and portends even bigger things happening in Iowa, and potentially Wisconsin, in less than ten days..
With apologies to Bob Dylan,.. "The times.... they are a changin!.."

I was at our county GOP HQ yesterday making calls to Iowa. Coincidence? I think not.

Add Minnesota, Michigan, etc. Mitt will shock people with the suburban vote. It's led Michael Barone to call it for Mitt. That is huge; he may lean right, but he goes by the numbers. They only question is: do we get a wave and sweep in senators? I think with Benghazi info being leaked by the Intel Community, this thing becomes a tsunami.

Does anyone really agree with their opening paragraph that the huge stimulus was necessary? I certainly welcome the endorsement though the mindset that agrees with how Obama managed the economy in 2008 is a different mindset that would endorse Romney.

Yesterday my neighbor was working the Romney booth at the farmers market in a suburb of DC (in VA) and she told me it was packed. She said the Obama booth was NOT and the workers looked sullen. I think it will be a decisive victory for Romney enough so there are no hanging chad issues anyway. And I think YOU are a big deal Joe and wish you were on Red Eye more often.

Perhaps the Register for Romney endorsement was payback for the arrogant and dismissive way Obama treated their editorial board?
At any rate ChiTrib and Sun Times, O's hometown papers have elected to do a Lena Dunham. But then, How'ya doin', they exist here in the People's Republic of Illinois on sufferance of Rham Emmanuel and don't want any building inspectors or tax assessors poking around.

Rush last week said there was NO way the DMR would endorse Romney. So this endorsement definitely feels like a boost.

Romney proves liberal enough to win even this paper's endorsement. Last time the GOP pulled this trick off was when Nixon was running. I understand why big gov. GOPers are taking pleasure in this Romney turnaround, but why are conservatives?
Four years from now when deficits are still over a trillion, the government is bigger yet and the US is having trouble selling debt who do you think is going to be blamed?
I have difficulty deciding what group is more pathetic, blacks who support the Dem machine no matter what or conservatives who do the same with the GOP?

But there will be room to maneuver for a course correction.

Conservatives fight the machine in primaries, look at all these Senate races. Dems don't, look at the big cities.

Can we just accept that voting against the worst president in our lifetimes is reason enough to celebrate? Voting him out is an assertion of sanity, whether moderate or Hannity.
Furthermore, our country needs some unity to tackle this deficit. If we get some bi-partisanship then we are likelier to marginalize the progressive infectious scum whose influence peaked under Pelosi and drained us like Lugosi.

LJ, you're intentionally omitting the context.
We tried hard to get a more conservative candidate than Romney, but the Republican machine bested us. We're not in love with Mitt, but we are anxious to vote against a socialist. Nothing 'pathetic' about it, this is the way our system works.

Re: This Is A Big Deal, Right? Right? Or Not, Like All That Other Stuff.
Are newspaper endorsements leading or following indicators? I'm not sure, but they do indicate where the momentum is.
Iowa is critical to a Romney win without Ohio (though I'm convinced he'll have Ohio as well).

Re: This Is A Big Deal, Right? Right? Or Not, Like All That Other Stuff.
I'm not happy at how "liberal" the DMR endorsement is, but it's certainly not a good sign for Obama that it happened.
Saw on Hot Air today that MN seems to be in a virtual tie in a poll from a traditionally left-leaning source. Obama leads by 3, but most of that strength seems to be in the Twin Cities area.
For once, I think it's a good thing that the election is still over a week away. Gives the tsunami a chance to build up steam.

They are already cheating in Ohio, so if the catch rate is maybe 10%, then how many votes will they steal in the end ?

Re: This Is A Big Deal, Right? Right? Or Not, Like All That Other Stuff.
All four major newspapers in Iowa endorsed Romney. I'll take it as a good sign.
