Gingrich, Romney Tie; Obama Gains
From ABC News:
Newt Gingrich has relinquished sole front-runner status almost as quickly as he gained it, landing at a dead heat with Mitt Romney in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll. And as the GOP hopefuls battle it out, ratings of Barack Obama’s prospects have warmed.
Americans now divide about evenly on whom they expect to win the 2012 presidential election: Forty-nine percent plump for the eventual Republican nominee, 46 percent for Obama. While still a weak showing given the usual advantages of incumbency, that’s a marked improvement for Obama from October, when 55 percent picked him to lose.
In general election match-ups, this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, finds that Obama holds significant leads over Gingrich and Ron Paul alike; matched against Romney, though, it’s a dead heat, 47-47 percent, among registered voters. If Paul’s added to the race as an independent (he’s not saying), Obama moves ahead of Romney.
Much can change, of course, with the election still more than 10 months away. But as reported separately, Obama’s advance to a 49 percent job approval rating may put him back in the game.
Jim Geraghty writes on all the Jeb Bush speculation, in light of his fantastic op-ed in the Wall Street Journal yesterday.
But the Washington Examiner's Byron York throws cold water all over it, pointing out that Bush has consistently said he's not running, from last year on through last week after reports he was polling voters in New Hampshire. His article ends:
The missing voice in all this is the voters. Talks with dozens of Republicans in Iowa last week revealed a lot of undecided voters, but little longing for a new candidate. "There is no passionate demand for a new candidate at the moment," says pollster Scott Rasmussen.
Perhaps that could change in the future -- never say never -- but the overwhelming likelihood is that the 2012 GOP nominee will be one of the current field.
Are you ready to accept that?

When two unelectable front runners simply are not enough, Jeb is in the wings!
Wake me if Daniels or Ryan throw their hats into the ring. Otherwise I'm expecting a last minute return to Perry or Bachmann (by actual voters this time) to quash the Paul juggernaut.
Say, is it too late to Occupy Mitch's Lawn?

Is it possible to have TOO MANY bright new ideas? I'm starting to think so. Romney would certainly calm those fears.

Err, no. Ideally, Mrs Palin would return from Alaska, or a Ryan/Rubio team would be drafted, but we appear to be stuck with what we have. No doubt Mr Murphy is pleased.
Mr Obama's numbers always seem to improve when he disappears from view, or when he demagogues - it's all rather depressing.

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.: From ABC News:
His approval rating usually goes up when he makes himself less visible and all we see are GOP candidates squabbling. Obama's disapproval rating will go up again once he opens his mouth and starts campaigning.

Romney has little room for error. He can beat obama if he corners all the anti-obama vote. But if there's a third party like paul, then the anti-obama vote will be split.

Things are looking up - Instapundit reports that the syphilitic camel has been forming an exploratory committee.
I'm still not sure how he is gonna get round the natural-born citizen requirement.

This poll can't possibly be right - it shows Mitt with 30% when everyone knows he has a hard ceiling of 25%.
Weird!

Maybe Thomas Sowell can break the tie.

Re: Gingrich, Romney Tie; Obama Gains
A sad comment on the American electorate, but true nevertheless: Romney's religion is a barrier that is impossible for too many to overcome. Romneycare is Obamacare no matter how his supporters spin it, and it will turn away the majority of voters in a national election - when the voting gets serious.
Romney cannot win a national election. If he's the nominee, a third party is inevitable.
