Politico says it has an exclusive: "Obama to include Republicans in hard-hitting convention":

Advisers to President Barack Obama are scripting a Democratic National Convention featuring several Republicans in a prime-time appeal to independents — and planning a blistering portrayal of Mitt Romney as a heartless aristocrat who “would devastate the American middle class,” Democratic sources tell POLITICO.

The program will feature lots of "real people" (for their sake, I hope they're more real than Joe Soptic) talking about how big government fueled by high tax rates and the attendant loss of liberty have helped them out in life -- "an auto worker whose job was saved, a student who benefited from college loans and an entrepreneur fueled by federal research-and-development funds." And each night there will be two people talking about a hot-button issue -- one lauding President Obama's actions and the other taking Mitt Romney to task.

So in talking about how Obama is a strong supporter of the largest abortion business in the country,  it might feature a husband talking about how a Planned Parenthood pap smear -- not one of the hundreds of thousands of abortions they perform each year -- helped his wife out. Still, there will be lots of talk about the high holy sacrament of contraception.

Then:

Convention planners are considering featuring a centrist Republican leader on at least two of the three nights. Nightly remotes from swing states may include a CEO or “major Republican.” On Wednesday night, a “notable GOP woman” is among the possible participants. And on the final night, Democrats may include a Republican leader — someone like former Sens. John Warner or Chuck Hagel — or a GOP woman.

For the Thursday night contrast, they're seeking a Republican "leader" to laud President Obama's military accomplishments.

First off, I'm curious if they'll be able to pull this off -- will they be able to get multiple Republicans to praise Obama and trash Romney?

If they don't, I think that will be telling. But I'm also curious who we think would be on the short list for the pitch to speak at the Democratic Convention.

And to think that people wondered why McCain was given a speaking slot.

Don't be so hard on Joe Soptic, it was a composite wife.  (I do feel bad for his loss, but.....)  :(

I think Joe Soptic should be treated most harshly. The political hacks in the Obama campaign do not have any emotional connection to the departed first Mrs. Soptic (I read some where that he is happily married again), Joe Soptic did. So, to use his wife's memory for a cheap political thrill is sad at best and detestable in general.

At this point nothing the Obamatrons do would surprise me. I fully expect to see his mom's bones propped up on stage so he can lie about her "lost" healthcare again.

All the above "Republicans" have ACU ratings below 60. Any or all of them are possibilities.

We should help by mailing him straw men to knock down, like little toy army men.  I mean if he is going to play in the land of make believe who are we to stand in the way?

When Barack Obama ran in 2008, he had very few serious adult accomplishments, he couldn't really run on what he had done but only who he was (seemed to be). He sold a vision of himself, a myth of the past decade, and a vision of the future that was irresistibly attractive to many voters in the 'center'.

Now, four years later, having very few positive accomplishments in office, he can't really run on he had done but rather who he is (seems to be moderate, uniting voice). He'll sell a vision of himself, a myth of the last four years, and a glorious future that will be extremely attractive to the center--if the Republicans would just get out of his way to do it, folks!

If you think this is an administration that knows how to govern a nation in crisis--you're nuts. But if you don't think this is a staff that knows how to run a campaign......

I am a registered Republican from the in-play Commonwealth of Virginia who would welcome the chance to speak at the Democratic convention! Unlike John Warner or any old Republican hack of the past, I will not fall asleep while talking. Nor will I make any embarrassing references to the days of segregation. Or complain that all sorts of white trash now vote Republican. Or drool from both sides of my mouth. I will however have to regretfully refuse to clear my remarks in advance.

Arlen specter

The lady who won as an independant in Alaska

Mz. Scozafoza or whatever from the embattled district in NY

The guy who lost to christine Odonnell in deleware

Pretty much anybody who lost a primary in 2010.  You know the sour grapes caucus, former congresspeople who are looking for opprotunities to get invited to all the right parties.

Maybe I missed it, but Jon Huntsman sounds like a natural.  And think of all the Democrats he'd put to sleep.

What about some Dems for the Republican convention a la Zell Miller?

Here's one:  David Boren from Oklahoma.  Why hasn't he made the switch?

I think it is Ms. Snowe.  She voted for Dodd-Frank, the stimulus and voted Obamacare out of committee.

She has been a better help to Obama then some Democrats.

Israel nailed it. Powell voted for Obama and campaigned for him last time around. He will do it again.

Maybe Cheney's daughter, since Obama is suddenly the gay-friendly candidate.

Actually, this is a fairly smart political move, especially from a group that can't seem to shoot straight except when pointing the gun at their own feet.

Republicans have invited conservative Democrats to speak at conventions before, it's a fairly wise way to show that you can "reach across the aisle," and that seems to matter to mushy-headed independents.
