I know this is a very big and important day for the media. Their excitement in covering the inauguration is palpable (although I can't help but notice the difference between coverage of it and the most recent second inauguration of a president).

But as four more years turns into four more wars (Syria, Mali, Yemen, Algeria?), it might be nice to just pay a tad more attention to world affairs.

Such as the coup that's happening right now in Eritrea.

Or the 37 (and definitely counting) hostages killed in Algeria by Mali terrorists ... with the help of Canadians?

Or updates on the French campaign in Mali.

Or the latest successful deadly attacks by the Taliban in Kabul.

I almost just want a Republican president so that the media can become interested in global affairs again.

How's that investigation into ... umm ... what was the name of it ... Benghato ... Benghaffy ... Benghazi! That's it, Benghazi!

I must have fallen asleep. How did that one turn out?

Terrorists know that if you kill an American, we'll do ... nothing.

Latest reports out of Algeria are that there are three dead Americans.

Hear, hear! BTW, have you noticed the Post is putting many (most?) of their articles about the hostage killings in Algeria in the Business section.? That seems odd...

The President is seeking a "fuller understanding."

Not to worry, it will all work out in the fullness of time.

Exactly.  How dare anybody do something that might make the president look bad!  And just before an election no less!  Hey, we in the press have a hagiography to write, and we don't look kindly on anyone who questions the light-worker in chief.  Who forgot to put the halo on the cover?  There's going to be hell to pay for that one.

In 2009, Thomas uttered these immortal lines:  "In a way, Obama's standing above the country, above -- above the world, a sort of god."

So, in theological terms, this must be the second "second coming." Right?

Of course, as we all know, it is working out, exactly as many predicted.

I find it ironic (which is the polite word we use for self-contradictory) that this Administration has a take-no-prisoners attitude against domestic opponents, yet bends over backward to use "persuasion" and "accommodation" with real foreign enemies. They're tough with their friends but soft with their enemies.

Which is usually a sign of arrogant cowardice.

I think the proper term is "blasphemy."

This is all just silly talk.  I'm positive Pres. Obama is great in foreign policy because the progressive media keeps telling us that America is far more respected as a country now that he's president.  They'd never lie to us!

The new Fuller Brush Man in The White House.. Is it all a Shakespearian  comedy of errors or a Greek tragedy being slowly revealed ?

Mollie, is your inner neo-con war-monger replacing your usual non-interventionist common sense?

Thanks for mentioning the story about Eritrea. That has some personal relevance.

Do you think that Rand Paul was kidding when he said that he suspected we might be running guns to the jihadists in North Africa ?

Amateur hour played out on a large scale.

Read around the  web today, Jed Babbin, even the WashPost. It is going to be rough. We are abandoning our allies, enticing our enemies, and weakening our forces. Not the recipe for peace in the world. In a very short time, the world will be squealing for the American eagle to come save them .

But they are stripping out the military guys who know what to do. Replacing them with the ones who kowtow .

Israel will be isolated and in danger. Any light that is extinguished makes the world a darker place. Israel is the only in the Middle East .

Burma is burning right now, but Obama was trying to kiss SuuKyi just a month ago it seems.

The press will cover most of it up, at the orders of the WH. Mustn't look untidy. Can't drag out the bloody laundry.

Did you hear Huddleston discount the Nigerian army because it has Christian soldiers ?

The Muslim Brotherhood must have opened an office on K St.

Nonsense. I am certain Barry is assembling troops on the Canadian border for a daring reprisal even as we speak.

Hardly! The last thing I want right now is our involvement in another group of countries. I'm also worried, of course, that our foreign policy is a hodge podge mish mash of nonsense that makes no sense and leaves us vulnerable to attack.

Then there's always Iraq.  Not that anyone should pay attention to Iraq, since paying attention to places like that just starts wars and results in BLUD4OIL.

I'm sorry, I'm just stunned by the pose on the front cover of the front cover of this disreputable rag. Quintessential narcissism on display. I can think of no other president or politician who thought so much of himself that would have posed this way with the possible exception of Mussolini whose chin may have jutted a bit higher. A pose Obama has often taken in public.
