Well, for a moment, we had a visit to Hillsdale by Rick Santorum scheduled for Monday, and there was reason to think that Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and even Ron Paul might join him. And now? He has abandoned us for another venue, and the whole thing has been called off. There is talk that something might be arranged for another time. I will believe it when I see it.

Ah spank!

As Capt Jack Sparrow would say, "Not good!"  It seems like a perfect venue for the candidates.  And the best part, for those of us not able to attend, would be reading Professor Rahe's impressions afterward.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that.  If I had it all to do again, Hillsdale is where I would do it.

Fwiw, Paul, welcome to the club.

In attempting to schedule the candidates to sit down for interviews on Uncommon Knowledge, we've had three near misses with Romney and two with Santorum.

He's probably upset that he wasn't invited on the cruise.

What was the other more pressing engagement?

One would think that the use of telecommunication would make it relatively easy to do an "appearance" or interview from a remote location.

It's maybe not the place you'd go to lure the undecided off the fence.

I am a fervent supporter of Mitt Romney, after all.

The student group running this show did not reveal details. I will no doubt eventually hear.

Yikes! Have you tried Jon Huntsman? I hear he's available.

And what of Rep. Paul?

(Or Gov. Johnson?)

I'm guessing that his advisers told him to avoid religious schools this week, out of concern what the Q&A videos might produce.

On the other hand, it would be smart for Romney to go there.   That would help defuse the religious suspicion for him.

While many Hillsdale students are religious, Hillsdale College is not religiously affiliated.

Very disappointing.  I hope the candidate who's put himself out there as the conscience candidate didn't ditch an awesome opportunity at Hillsdale for something like a fundraiser.

@Duane Oyen is spot on re: Romney.  He needs to be at Hillsdale in the worst possible way.

Quite frustrating.  In my limited experience in Presidential primary organization in PA back in the '90s .....the candidates' schedules are incredibly fluid.   I mean ridiculously so.   I wonder if Santorum even knows yet.  LOL.   Can't deny that I'm disappointed.

I'd also like to see Buddy Roemer interviewed.  I'm not kidding. Love Peter's interviews.

Most unfortunate, but it would be unwise to make more of this than the mere fact of the matter. This is a nation comprising upwards of 300 million citizens with equivalent  civil organizations to match.

Mr. Santorum would indeed be well advised to make more time in his schedule to address the faculty of Hillsdale and the membership of Ricochet but we cannot know what he would have to forgo to do so.

At the moment one can only say, this is unfortunate.
