Yes, you read that right. This afternoon, Ricochet's Peter Robinson appeared on NPR's Talk of The Nation with Clinton speechwriter Paul Glastris to offer advice to Mitt Romney on what he should include in his speech to the convention tomorrow. Listen in below. If you dare.

Can we officially cut Rob "the squish on the NPR station" some slack now?

You've got it, Mr. B.  I did this to give Brother Rob some cover.

  • It's so touching that Democrats worry about the "third of the Republicans" that aren't enthusiastic about Romney.
  • I think Romney needs to remind people that it's the love of money that's the root of all evil--not money. You can also have an unhealthy love of money without having much of it.
  • To Democrats: Just saying that Romney's foreign trip was a failure doesn't make it true. He was a big hit in Israel and Poland. He just wasn't a big hit with liberal reporters.

Yeti, you write as though Peter's appearance on NPR is a once-in-a-millenium occurrence....yet loyal TOTN listeners know that Peter is the show's go-to commentator whenever a politician gives a major national speech (including the annual SOTU preview).

Peter: great job, as usual.  I especially agreed with your remark that Romney needs to start adding some specifics to the usual bromides in his speeches.

I love when you go behind enemy lines and speak on NPR.   The local NYC station was utterly unbearable today, but their choice to bring you on reflects very well on TOTN's judgment.  Great job!

I think I miss the days when I used to listen to NPR obsessively. It was lovely to hear Neal Conan’s voice again.

I can live without hearing this -- it's enough to make a person gag just thinking about it.

Excellent broadcast, Peter. In fact, I haven't heard you better.  Just a couple of points.

First, you seemed to agree with the assertion that Obama's foreign policy record is a strength that Romney can't match. I would counter that there are a lot of dead Egyptians, Syrians, etc that wouldn't agree.

Secondly, near the end of the discussion it was asserted that a candidate needs to run on his record.  For Obama to run on HIS record would be a god-send for Romney.
