It's sad to know that there is only one (or two) people per continent that represent the "Climate Change Denier" category.
Good Podcast. I love Australia. But alas - my one Aussie friend is hopelessly lefty, yet otherwise fairly intelligent. Australia is an strange mixture of American style ruggedness and horrid English bureaucracy...

As a geologist and a lover of all things Australian, I have to say that I adore Prof. Plimer, and he could as far as I'm concerned be James' guest for the next hundred podcasts.

As a fellow Australian, as a fellow skeptic, as a fellow conservative, I really, really want to put Ian Plimer on a pedestal. I have even come to his defence when I felt his reputation unfairly impugned. But it can be difficult at times.
As a fellow Australian it struck me that there were a few questionable factual assertions in this interview. I was going to let them ride, but when Dr Plimer claimed that Gina Rinehart built her business from nothing, I had to object.
Gina Rinehart is a truly great businesswoman, and I doubt that more than a handful of people in the entire world could have achieved what she did. But she did not start with nothing. She started with a solid inheritance from her father's business: some tens of millions of dollars and a huge swathe of undeveloped mining leases.
She has turned that into tens of billions of dollars. Truly a great woman and a great business person. But not what was said.
As for claiming Australian aboriginality, it is indeed horribly unfair as Dr Plimer says, but in a different, infuriatingly bureaucratic and arbitrary way.

Not at all. In fact, I constantly wonder if any of my stuff has a life outside of Ricochet. I know that if you Google certain Rico-contributors you could get a very different idea about them if you didn't know what goes on around here.

Delingpole and Plimer (your Telegraph blogs and his book) were a fundamental part of my break away from "global warming / climate change. That plus I still remember the Newsweek cover from the 70s saying we were entering into an ice age. It was indeed a pleasure to listen to you both.
however, it created a mini cause for anxiety. I have a reasonable amount of friends and many more associates from the Northampton area. Why aren't you out campaigning to bring them to the 21st century? Nigel keeps fighting the valiant fight, even braving (paltry but real) fines. Is James whimping out?

Yes. Just keep him away from the subject of religion. I'd love to hear him speak in detail about geology and undersea volcanic activity releasing unknown quantities of CO2, etc.
