Trump Fined Again in the Bragg Political Trial. Will he get Jailed?

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/trump-fined-again/

I really like this line:

In fact, as I’ve previously quipped, if I were the billionaire defendant here, I’d be tempted to give Merchan a check for $5K or $10K every Monday to cover the upcoming week’s anticipated contempts.

He closes with:

If Merchan is truly worried about out-of-court statements that imperil the dignity of the judicial process, what about Bragg’s gratuitous (and deceptively titled) “statement of facts” that so distorted the indictment the grand jury actually returned? That has had much more prejudicial effect on the proceedings than anything Trump has ranted about on Truth Social.

The utter reality of this trial is that it is a blatant, partisan, political prosecution by the Democrats to stop the nominee of the Republican party. The American people should be appalled.

Now, I am far less sanguine about this corrupt judge putting Trump in jail. I think he is likely to do it. I know McCarthy disagrees, but he keeps being shocked by what the “justice” system is willing to do.

We shall see.

They used ridiculous indictments to get him into court, and now they’re trying him for crimes for which he was not indicted. They’re rigging the schedule to keep him from campaigning. So what does he do? Gets takeout pizza and goes to firehouses.

There’s a lot about DJT to criticise, and I will do it when I’m inclined to. But I’ve gotta say, compare him with FJB, and remember that we’re not electing a pope, we’re interviewing for a job.

If the judge tried that, I’d like for the Secret Service to protect him, with deadly force if necessary.

The Secret Service would probably have the final say on any jail sentence for Trump. President Trump is entitled to Secret Service protection as a former President. He has not been convicted of a crime. A state judge cannot interfere with that protection.

The optics would be interesting if 5 or 6 Secret Serice agents would show up at Rikers Island with M-4’s or inform the court bailiffs that they are not to take Trump into their custody and will face Federal charges if they attempt to take him into custody.

I think this is exactly right. All of his critics salivating about the prospect of his being thrown into Rikers Island will be very disappointed when they realize that there is a 0.0 percent chance that the Secret Service will allow him to be remanded to custody outside their control, and that there is federal law that gives them the authority to prevent this. The best they’re going to get is confinement in his Trump Tower penthouse. Please throw me into THAT briar patch.

Well, at any rate, “federal charges” is nonsense.  That would mean charges from the FJB DOJ?  Hah.  Better they don’t let the bailiffs/whoever get near.  Use all necessary force, shoot to kill if necessary.  Including the judge if he doesn’t stop giving the orders.

Naw, we’ll just convince him to put Kristi Noem on the ticket and when she finds out he eats chicken and is totally untrainable we’ll let nature take its course.

Even if the judge wants to jail him they would put him in the Manhattan Detention Complex, not Riker’s. It’s also a good idea sometimes to embrace one’s Miranda Rights. He’s not helping himself any.

I do think they wanted Trump to get the nomination because they thought Trump was the Republican most likely to lose the general.   And I think they were right on that.        Why is it continuing?  To maximize the probability of Trump losing.  Gotta wonder why they stick with Biden rather than going with a candidate with enough energy to campaign.   While I am anti-Trump,  I am not Never Trump.   I am Never Biden.

Under current federal law a former President is entitled to Secret Service protection for the rest of their life to include their spouse.

This is not subject to an Executive Order.

The judge would more probably order custody in the courtroom (typical for contempt of court jailings), so the shootout would take place there, not at Rikers Island. I would expect more dead New York sheriff deputies (or marshals or whoever is in charge of security for the courtroom) than Secret Service agents, as I have higher confidence in the Secret Service’s accuracy. And I don’t expect the Secret Service agents to obey immediately Biden’s withdrawal of Secret Service protection (likely an order for the Secret Service to stand down), as such an order would be so obviously improper.

As to the optics, even appealing to the judge’s corruption, it’s not in the judge’s interest to try to jail Donald Trump. Doing so would only turn even more people to favor Mr. Trump, as they see yet more evidence of the corruption of the system.

I don’t see how a corrupt judge can avoid a jail sentence at this point.  He has permitted the invention of a crime that has yet to be clearly stated.  It is kinda traditional on account of the Sixth Amendment to be clear on that sort of thing.  He allowed misdemeanors already barred by the statute of limitations to become felonies on the theory that Trump intended to violate a criminal statute that has not been identified.  A conviction of multiple felonies is a near certainty so how does he not impose sentence?  Anything less than time in the slammer would be a tacit admission that this was a put-up job.

I think Trump needs to name a VP.  Trump may be barred from speaking from the slammer.  But the right VP candidate out there speaking daily to the issue of Democratic corruption, incompetence, and sheer malice with Trump as a victim rather than a supposed menace could be powerful. Bragg and Merchan’s photos need to be everywhere so they get called out wherever they go.  Trump in jail but illegal alien criminals get a pass, housing and cash?

People wonder why the Tea Party seemed to fizzle whereas BLM/antifa seems to keep going and appear on the scene with any issue/event that is anti-American and/or simply disruptive. The answer is several billion dollars. The normals have nothing equivalent to the Tides Foundation/Soros etc. The time for serious pushback is at hand but the organizational muscle is not there.  Wish I was wrong about that.
