Great!  Thanks for that.  My first reaction was that Seth Meyers isn’t doing SNL Weekend Update right now, until I read the date of the show.

So the writers at Saturday Night Live think that Google-Eye Cortez is worth making fun of.  I guess this is a sign of progress on the Left!

It’s a sketch they did years ago. She just happens to resemble AOC (D, USSR).

I saw it three or four times 40 years ago.  It always came on past my bedtime,

I don’t blame you.  I watched the first few years of it and then decided that it was the most overrated show on television.  For all the hype it has gotten for the last 40 years, I think their comedy was mostly mediocre, with some high points here and there, along with some incredible duds.

How about this one from somebody who hasn’t watched in awhile?   The older bit in the video (which I admit is pretty funny) is labeled “Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With At a Party.”  There’s another one, above, featuring, “Drunk Uncle.”  Does this naming convention make it easier for people to know what they’re supposed to be laughing at.  You know, just in case a character doesn’t work, you lead the audience to water?

We used to watch it when we were young and dumb. But it was funny for a couple years.

That was pretty funny!  It’s too bad she isn’t on the show now, because her career would have taken off as AOC:  the congresswoman we all wish no one ever started a conversation with.

    Indeed.

For a forum full of people who are always complaining about virtue signaling, they’re always very quick to virtue signal by talking about how terrible SNL is and how they don’t watch it.

    So three things:

    1. Thanks for posting this.  I miss that character and I wish they had kept it going.  That character and Drunk Uncle are two of my favorite Weekend Update characters of the last 10 years.
    2. There are lots of Democrats who are annoyed by AOC too.
    3. Not for nothing, yes, she’s a clown, but all the attention paid to AOC only makes her more powerful.

That might make some sense if complaining about SNL was actually virtue signaling.

You’re right, of course. It’s only virtue signaling when someone you don’t like does it.

I guess you might call it preference-signaling, or taste-signaling. I do it a lot, myself, or am tempted to.

Can’t blame Ricochet or conservatives, though. SNL-bashing is pretty widespread. They’ve even gotten some criticism from the mainstream, for being a one-trick, anti-Trump pony.

SNL is a little like Starbucks. They’re the big gorilla in their particular corner of the market, and they’re safely left-wing. So they catch plenty of hate from the right, but they also get their share of hate from the left, for being too mainstream, or too corporate, or being the television/coffee your parents like.

Fred, why are you always the guy on this site who has to make obnoxious comments on everybody else’s behavior?  You are not our father.  How would you know that ordinary complaining about something which we do not like is “virtue signaling?”

    Are you psychic?

Father. Hmmm. Never thought of that one. I always envisioned his role as that of the Hall Monitor.

I thought she was going to tell us that it’s OKAY to change out of work attire, whatever that is. And I was going to get to say something about you mean YOU stay in it all evening? Changing isn’t common practice?

But ok ….she’s normal then, no problem with the content although I don’t know who it was intended for. But basically when she’s not being really outlandish with her socialism, she sounds like she has the depth of those daytime multi-girl discussion show “stars.”

When I was a young man I recall dating some attractive girls who weren’t all that bright. I could forgive that particular limitation in a really beautiful girl but not having a clue about how stupid one is is a dealbreaker.

Similarly, it is not the stupid comments per se that makes AOC so annoying. It is the complete certainty with which she issues utter drivel that’s the problem.

Nope. I’ve just tired of conservative virtue signaling and their victimhood mentality.

(Note: My comments do not apply to pre-2015 conservatives, who I can still get along with.)
