The Mark Steyn Show Is No More
I just came across a bit of disappointing news this evening via SteynOnline: The Mark Steyn Show, which had been broadcast on CRTV since its inception on December 21, 2016, has been cancelled. Mark Steyn writes:
In less congenial telly news, today was perhaps the most sobering and humbling day since this poor old Canadian came to the United States many years ago. I had only been doing the show for a little over a month, and had hoped to be doing it for a long time to come. There is always a story between the lines, and everyone of course is free to speculate. I hope to be able to say more in the days ahead.
That’s too damn bad. It was an excellent show and I hope he finds another platform for it soon. In fact, it was my only reason for opening up a subscription to CRTV in the first place. Needless to say, I will not be renewing.

@captainpower: “Discussions where only one side is represented are no good.”
Its almost as bad as the MSM – where lefties only talk to other lefties.
Which is surprising since, unlike the Left, we actually do have a bigger tent with social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, libertarians, trumpers, defense hawks, compassionate conservatives, etc. (feel free to chime in if I left you out).
You left me out on two counts: populist conservative and conservative environmentalist.
I subscribed to the Levin TV show before it went under the CRTV umbrella. I will renew for another year because I enjoy watching it when I can. I hadn’t watched much of the other shows because I have little time. Steyn’s was different, more of a cultural thing than a political one. Sometimes we need a vacation from politics. Crowder is funny but more of a show for younger folks.
I use the Apple TV app to stream it to my TV. I liked having conservatives under one roof. Flipping apps is clumsier than flipping channels.
Mark Steyn claims win in lawsuit with CRTV:

Thanks for the link. I’ve been wondering what happened, just this morning in fact.
(Youtube had popped up a newish Steyn video in my recommended feed around 5 am today. In it, Mr. Steyn appears to be standing in his gorgeous CRTV studio but it is just green screen magic. So I got to wondering but couldn’t find anything out. How timely! Thanks again!)
In the Steyn post, he links to the arbitration decision.
I note a few things.
The decision does describe Steyn as a bit of a diva. P. 9, penultimate para.
The decision states: “having spent a great deal of money defending a libel suit, Steyn needed money.” P. 2, 5th para.
Both parties blame Rikki Ratliff for the delays in getting the Steyn show up and running. P. 6, 5th para. through p. 6., 2nd para. She was recommended by Steyn and hired by CRTV and continues to work at CRTV.
That’s great news. Steyn’s detractors were proven wrong. I hope this eventually leads to a full revival of The Mark Steyn Show!
I had missed that on the first read. But ultimately it was CRTV’s responsibility to keep an eye on what Ratliff was doing on their behalf — and thus the finding for Steyn.
A few days later, Steyn also posted an e-mail of mine.
$2.7 million in damages plus interest and $1 million in attorney fees for Steyn, his co-defendant/co-counterclaimant Mark Steyn Enterprises (MSE), and his co-counterclaimant Oak Hill Media (CRTV sued Steyn and Steyn-owned MSE, but Steyn, MSE, and his part-owned company Oak Hill Media counterclaimed against both CRTV and its principal Cary Katz).
I doubt CRTV has the money. My guess is Katz is going to pay out of his own pocket rather than risk Steyn force CRTV into liquidation.
I just noticed that our own @katievs posted a comment in that thread.
Time for some celebratory music!
I would hope CRTV has insurance for the damages. I enjoy LevinTV tremendously and also we watch Louder with Crowder every week.
Katz, who founded CRTV, is a billionaire and supposedly threw a lot of money around during the Steyn drama. If CRTV is a political investment for him and not just an economic investment, then CRTV will remain solvent.
Ultimately, there is no reason for CRTV to go bankrupt. If it was the only defendant, then it might go bankrupt, leaving Steyn as a creditor in the bankruptcy.
Because Katz appears to be jointly on the hook to Steyn, Steyn should have little trouble collecting. If CRTV has investors other than Katz, then bankruptcy is really only likely to be used in a dispute between Katz and the other investors over who pays how much of the award.
The way appeals work in this country, Steyn might not be paid for another decade… and will need to pay for further legal counsel the whole time.
Simultaneously, the Mann case apparently must wait until the next ice age for resolution.
It is in an appeal of a motion to dismiss prior to discovery. Even if rehearing is denied, the possibility exists that this goes up to the Supreme Court. That could push it out another two years before discovery, let alone trial. After discovery, there will be more opportunities to dismiss and appeal the dismissal or failure to dismiss.
Basically, the appeals court said that in order to find the statute constitutional, we are going to read nearly all meaning out of it. They could have done the opposite: read it as the defendants asserted, but held it unconstitutional. That clearly would go to the Supreme Court.
Mark Steyn opines further on Cary Katz and the CRTV dumpster fire.
Well it’s looking like that might be right around the corner if the solar cycles keep spinning down…
He sounds really bitter.
Levin TV existed before CRTV. I like several of the shows.
Mark Steyn filled in for Rush Limbaugh yesterday and addressed the CRTV lawsuit in the third hour. Skip to the 1:18:20 mark for his comments on the matter:

Steyn’s my favorite Rush fill-in.
That is one cat fight I am avoiding. I like CRTV and Steyn.
I watched both Steyn and Levin while a CRTV subscriber, and appreciate Malkin as well.
Obviously, Levin would not have praised Katz the other day if he knew Katz would sue to escape all financial liability for CRTV and stick Levin with the bill. They were both bamboozled.
