Nightly 2.0 Update: Getting Better
Now that we’re back to a full podcasting schedule, our ability to provide nightly updates becomes more difficult. But that’s a good thing as it means we’re slowly getting back to a normal routine around here. Here’s what got done today:
- The issue of someone’s else’s name and email address showing up in the change membership page has finally been fixed. If you’ve been waiting to renew your subscription or change your membership tier, you may now do so safely. We know that the drop down menu there still says Gold, and Platinum rather than Thatcher and Reagan. We hope to have that text swapped out tomorrow (it’s not as easy to change as you might think).
- The alerts notification at the top of the page still isn’t working correctly. However, if you click on the button and then click on See All, you will get all of your current alerts. We hope to have the heads up number working correctly this week. Email alerts will be turned on when we get the heads up numbers working.
- We’ve done another data import from the old site and think we’ve got it right this time. There may be some stray comments or embedded media that didn’t make it over due to the eccentricities of the way the old site stored certain kinds of data. If you’re still missing something, let us know.
- All of our podcasts, including the Super Feed are now available on Stitcher. Special shout-out to Kate at Stitcher for all the help. Also, for those of you having trouble subscribing to the Super Feed, make sure you are using this URL: http://ricochet.com/superfeed/
- A particularly annoying bug that temporarily displayed some user’s real names on the site (it happened to me!) has now been fixed.
- We are making progress on bringing back the old layout to the site, but I wouldn’t expect it for another couple of weeks. Hang in there.
- We’ve made a bunch of optimizations and tuning under the hood to make load times better. We are also addressing the issues concerning certain browsers (*cough* Chrome) not displaying the site correctly.
- We think we have a good handle as to why it’s frustratingly difficult to comment or post on the site from a mobile device. We hope to have this fixed in the next 24 hours.
That’s it for tonight. As alway, keep the comments and bug reports coming. We read them all.

‘Great to hear. Rock on Yeti!
As ever, thanks to – and prayers for – all!
My old Main Feed posts still aren’t showing up. What’s weird is that if I do a search, a link comes up to ricochet.com/main-feed/title-of-post. Clicking on the link gets a “page not found” message.
By “main feed posts” do you mean Member Feed posts of yours that were promoted to the Main Feed? If so, I don’t think those will get copied over as we can’t copy duplicates.
On importing member feed posts, more than half of my 29 posts from 1.0 have not made it over. I wouldn’t weep for any of the missing ones, but if my case is typical, then you might still have a problem on your hands. In fact, some of the ones that made it over to 2.0 earlier are now missing again.
Edit: But if posts continue to be missing, then so are the conversations they spawned. This likely remains a problem for the most prolific posters and members whose posts garnered tons of comments.
Really? Wow. Peter and Rob really didn’t provide the tools or resources necessary for this project, did they.
To try to help keep the threads straight, here is the list of 2.0 threads started by Blue Yeti.
Please only comment on the newest thread, so BlueYeti (and others) don’t have to bounce back and forth through a million threads to get reports from us.

Only 5 of my 24 posts from the old site have made it over, unless there is some cap on the number of threads started that will display on your profile. Looking in My Feed, I see nothing older than October 2013.
First the good news. 2/10 of the Ricochet 1.0 hyperlinks I am tracking made it over.
The others I still cannot find Ricochet 2.0 equivalents for:
The last one here is an intel post from the part of the Ricochet 1.0 site that was “disappeared” in the dead of night.
I’m not sure if these posts are meant to be migrated or not.
p.s. the word count is showing me 0/200 (unhelpful), but I’m going to hit “Post Comment” anyway, like a boss.
I’m still missing quite a few conversations that I started. There are 30 listed, and I should think about a dozen missing. And it says at the top that I only started (9). There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason. Some were promoted to the main feed, some weren’t. The date ranges don’t seem to mean anything. There’s one that made it over from Jan 17, 2012. Then one missing from Feb 15, 2012. Then one that made it from March 28, 2012. That pattern repeats all through.
And I think I have the same issue as Snirtler–some of the ones missing were there a few days ago. I think.
This seems to imply that promoted posts are no longer associated with the author’s account. In other words, you can’t find them by going to the author’s profile and looking at conversations he started. That’s unfortunate because the promoted posts are typically the best ones.
It’s a guess. I’ll get an official answer on this.
I’m posting about alerts, but when I hit the “quote post” button This is what I got:
Blue Yeti: Episode 56: Football Heroes Mar 28, 2014 DISCUSS | SUBSCRIBE
The current problem:
Anyway, I’m not getting current alerts even when I click see all (which has resulted in my not clicking follow). The alerts are all from last fall. I’m assuming this will get fixed as the alerts get fixed.
The other question:
Will the alerts all be single or grouped like they used to be “Member name and X others comments on post name”
I’m going to follow this post and see what happens. Thanks, Blue Yeti, et al., for all the hard (never-ending?) work on this.
I had two posts promoted to the Main Feed which made it over and are associated with my profile.
I didn’t have a list of all posts and dates, but it does seem that mine are moving back in time, too — a ways to go still in that case, though.
When I stop getting alerts for posts moved over then everyone else’s should be here (about 140 were initially missing.) I tried to pay monkeys to write a bunch of posts for me, but my screening process couldn’t keep Whiskey Sam out of the qualified applicants.
To see all the conversations you’ve started go Account-> My Conversations. The counter on top is not correct currently, but you should be able to see how many pages of 20 each that are on the new site. Also, I did a search for a few things I know were promoted and hadn’t transfered and they are here now.
If it is any consolation, even the big boys can screw up. Microsoft just released an update of its Outlook.com inbox: complete with a hover box you can dismiss in Chrome…but not in IE9.
Nice job, Redmond!

Still only half a bio.
Sent a message to info@richochet folks to determine my membership status. Under Billing it still shows “Nothing to update. You’re NOT a paid member” I was auto billed literally a week or two before the great 2.0 migration (and I have the Visa bill posting on March 9th to prove it). I wanted to up grade to Thatcher status, but do I get some prorated credit for the $30 I just plunked down? Chirp.. Chirp..
Just trying to help you guys; You know increasing my skin content in the game. Talk to me.
Sorry, Yeti, but the data is definitely not all here. Or if it is here, the relationship between the content and the member’s account is broken or orphaned. It is easy for me to count because I have so few, and because I just happened to copy down all my original posts just prior to the migration. If you want the names of the posts, I can give them to you. They include my 15-minutes of fame tornado announcement.
As for what the group set is, my missing posts are a mix of main feed and member feed posts. Some of my main feed posts are here. So at least for me, the main feed / member feed symptom doesn’t apply. It just appears to be random.
I know that the data is not “lost”, but if we can’t access it, it might as well be. I’m not sure where the assertions that data import is complete or successful is coming from, but this is probably the third time it has been declared “done.” But the evidence suggests otherwise. This is becoming a real confidence-buster.
Hoping for better news, data wise, at some point.
Finally seeing my promoted posts. They’re showing up in My Conversations, and the links work.
The podcast superfeed still doesn’t work for me on iTunes.
On my iPhone the podcast column appears on top of the post column making it unreadable.
I’ve not checked my own posts yet, but I can say that the long-form posts on 1.0 did NOT port over correctly (yes, I mean the PIT gatherings).
Dash’s “Seen on the streets of Paris” thread, which had well over 2k comments, ported fine at first, then was hosed. Now there are only 307 comments, though for a brief time yesterday there were over 600.
Most of the missing posts show up there, but they’re all listed as Archived. Still missing five posts.
Having checked my own records, nothing I posted prior to October now survives here.
Hmm.. On this tip I checked a different way and found most of my stuff, except for several older posts that had gone main feed – they’re still not here.
GLD We’ll look into this today and be in touch.
Dude, your last post was around midnight PDT, and now it is ~7 something in the morning there, when do you sleep?
Sounds like some of you are still receiving updates on the import of your old conversations. I haven’t got anything new in the last 12 hours. Am still at 30, with several of my favorites (even if I do say so myself) missing . . . .
Kind of like playing ‘Wheel of Fortune’; waiting for those last few letters to show up!
I’ve got a bug to report regarding downloading podcast MP3’s. I never listen to the podcasts via streaming, I always download and listen later. Using Firefox for Windows it’s no problem, I right-click on DIRECT LINK TO MP3 FILE, choose Save Link As, and we’re off and running. With Ricochet 1.0 I could also doing this using Firefox for Android on my Android-based tablet. With R2.0, the right-click menu doesn’t have the Save Link As option when I’m using the tablet.
