More Headline Bias for Peter Robinson – This Time from the BBC

Peter: Some thought you were being hypersensitive to an anti-Israel bias in the NYT. Well, Twitchy has posted what is perhaps a more blatant example of such bias — from the BBC.

How can Israel have ended a truce when Hamas fired the rockets prior to Israel’s action? Unbelievable.

See the follow up tweets on the Twitchy post.

Incredible, David. Hamas is never seen as being responsible.

Isn’t it sort of condescending (racist? imperial?) to never hold Hamas responsible for their own actions?

Is it similar* to how so many people refuse to hold Obama responsible for his own actions, because he is held to a different standard because he is “the first black president”?

*I am not comparing the president to Hamas, rather the thought process of liberals.

I completely understand the analogy, Albert. Not far fetched at all, IMHO.

I just watched Fox News Sunday. After interviewing Benjamin Netanyahu, Chris Wallace brought in a PA official from the West Bank, who proceeded to lie through her teeth with, unfortunately, little push back from Wallace. For instance, she blamed the “military occupation of Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem” for the “conditions which lead to violence.” Of course, Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza 8 years ago, putting the falsehood to her statement. Wallace did press her on the tunnels, which Hamas built with materials that were meant to construct schools. The PA representative demurred, “I’m not a spokesperson for Hamas, but they have a right to self-defense.” The tunnels are obviously not for self-defense.

My paraphrasing from memory was slightly off. Here’s the show transcript:

WALLACE: Ms. Ashrawi, you talk about Israel holding the people in Gaza captive. The death toll in Gaza now is over 1,000 people. But isn’t a lot of the responsibility on Hamas and the various other resistance groups in Gaza who continue to fire thousands of rockets into Israel? If you were to stop the rocket attacks, which attack Israeli civilians and force them to run for bomb shelters, if you stop those, wouldn’t the fighting end?

ASHRAWI: If it stops the occupation and its enslavement of the whole nation, its captivity of the people of Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem, treating us like some subhuman species, then the violence will stop. The violence is generating by a very abnormal condition called Israeli military occupation. They devalue our lives and rights. They persist in bombing and shelling people, civilians and then they blame the victims. I’ll tell you something, frankly. If Israel does not attack the Palestinians, if Israel does not continue with this ruthless bombing of whole families.

    Lies.

Guys, come on, its right there in the tweet “amid rocket fire from Gaza“.  Surely you aren’t suggesting that Hamas fired those rockets?!?!?
