Thanks for the list. They could probably all be eliminated on grounds of federalism, but some may be more of a menace to the Republic than others.  Some of these should go away on grounds of eliminating corporate welfare.  The elimination of funding for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting should be at the top of the list, and ought to put an end to the wild accusations that Trump is an anti-First Amendment fascist.

This is a good start at a dream list.  But, as today is my day for cynicism, I am thinking the one most likely to be cut is “NASA Office of Education Supports STEM education initiatives”.

The budget will obviously be manipulated in order for it to pass the Senate, thus much of this will be lost. However, given that his appointees run the Departments and Agencies that house these boondoggles, I don’t see how Trump couldn’t just bargain with the Dems and then just order his people to manage their departments to HIS budget and not the one that passes the Senate? For some others, the HoR could maybe just cut funding on their own aside from the budget?

PS: cutting one of these (I won’t name it for professional reasons) will lead to my termination of employment. I would be disappointed but can honestly say that I still endorse this budget.

We have Meals On Wheels up here in the Great White North. It’s absolutely not a federal program.

MoW are delivered in 181 communities across Ontario. Most MOW programs in Canada were started by local church groups or steering committees that saw a need to help feed elderly populations in their communities. Today, MOW programs still operate at the local level. Programs vary widely in their size, service provided, organization and funding…

…There are 137 not-for-profit organizations receiving government funding from the [PROVINCIAL!!!] Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to provide Meals on Wheels. This government funding covers only part of the cost – the difference is made up by donations and/or client fees, which are kept as low as possible.

My mother was a Meals On Wheels volunteer though her church.  There is no reason the states can’t help fund privately-run Meals On Wheels programs.

    There are quite a few letters of the alphabet missing from that alphabetical list: B, F, H, J, K, P, Q, R, V, X, Y, Z.

As a first addition, I’ll provide an “H”:

The states can fund Meals On Wheels.

Or the people.  All the celebrities on my twitter feed are freaking out and the truth is they could probably fund it out of their collective per diems.

ever seen a celebrity put his money where his mouth is?

Yes, there are celebrities who give to (certain, generally left wing) charities.  But really.  Actually spending the money they claim to want to spend?  Never going to happen.  Not that we shouldn’t regularly point out to them how stupid and hypocritical they are.  Of course.

If it doesn’t contribute greatly to their professional image, like building houses in Haiti or New Orleans after a media-intensive disaster, it just ain’t worth it.  You might as well ask ’em to contribute to the revitalization of the nation’s deteriorating sewer systems.

I remember watching a local news show that broadcast the proceedings of the state H of R during a budget crisis back in the ’80s. Every time a program would come up for discussion, I would think “well, that sounds like a good idea!” and after awhile, I realized that it was a lot harder to balance a state (let alone national) budget than it looked. What is important to emphasize to progressive friends is that just because you cut the federal benefits to, say, “support for African business ventures” doesn’t mean that African business ventures can’t be supported. Indeed, they are being supported, by all sorts of entities, NGOs and, of course, the Chinese. So the choice isn’t between federal funds for CPB and the death of CPB…rather, CPB will have to come by its funding more honestly than taking it from the taxpayers it openly (at times) disdains.

This reads like a giant list of pork.

What is the budget savings on these cuts?

any state that wants to carry the torch on reviving thinges like these is free to do so.
