Reconciliation
I voted early yesterday. It was my day off, so I got up a little late, ate breakfast, and went down to the courthouse, where I spent about 45 minutes in line. I’d been telling myself that I would not vote for Trump. I have “known” him for many years. Many of my grad school classmates of twenty-some years ago discussed him and his book Art of the Deal. I’ve seen him schlepp for a casino in Indiana then skulk away when it was apparent Hoosiers weren’t ready for Trump style business. More lately, I’ve seen him run for president. I’ve never liked him and vowed that I wouldn’t vote for the man. From the get-go, I saw him as someone out for his self interests, and that others would become tools for fulfilling those interests if they supported him.
But then there’s Hillary Clinton. What can I say? Gullible at best, probably incompetent, certainly politically sociopathic. When I speak of Trump, I have to take a shower. But when I even think of Clinton as president, I want to vomit. So, when I walked into that voting booth, I broke down, compromised my principles, and voted Trump. Probably voted for Trump because of my principles. I couldn’t stomach the thought that I would have done nothing to try to get in the way of Clinton becoming having president.
I only have hope that, for the next few years, I will be taking a lot of showers and not driving the porcelain bus.

Substance abuse helps the feeling. I suggest double carbon fragments from Kentucky.
I would much rather spend the next four years trying to control Trump than I would Hillary. If Hillary is elected, the writing is on the wall for us activists, whom she considers a criminal element; the vast right wing conspiracy.
I’m more a fan of the sweet nectar of the highlands but will go with the Kentucky option if pressed.
Hillary the Harpy despises us (us being the everyday American people). Trump admires us. No contest.
Take two aspirins and three showers, then say four “Our Fathers,” and text us in the morning. You’ll be fine.
Amen and Amen, brother!
I fear my moment of truth rapidly approaches. And like you, I fear I may have to pull the lever for… Oh, woe is me! Woe is me!
Just remember that it will support the alcohol businesses of the world.
Thank you. My grandchildren thank you. Voting for the good of America is the right thing.
That is the kind of support for Trump I can get behind and respect. On Nov. 8th every decent American who loves this country will lose. There is no way for there to be a win in this election. But knowing how bad things are and voting against the Queen Crone of Crime Hillary is perfectly understandable and honorable.
Don’t feel bad about there were only bad choices presented for you to choose from and you made the best of it knowing how bad it will be. It was an honorable thing to do.
I wrote someone in. Doesn’t help, it was a bad choice but I had to make the best of it.
Legalize Marijuana? Funny that coincided with this election…
Nice post. Doing the right thing doesn’t always feel good.
You stood for something. The motives of almost all the folks I hear that are voting for him are a credit to what this country has always stood for even if the man himself has had a shady past. Hold your head high. Regardless of who wins, there is a big fight ahead.
I heard Trump speak last week at a rally near me.
He loves the country.
It’s a low bar, but Globalist Hillary can’t even get her cankles over it.
You done good.
3 or more reasons keep that lying Shrew out of the White House.
Thank you for your decision. I only pray that the majority of those who have been resisting Trump for reasons outside of Trump vs Hillary can come to the same conclusion as you and vote to keep Hillary out of the white house.
May there be many, many more like you.
I’m sorry you had to go through this.
Thank you for posting this. Love your Member icon …
Imagine your lovely Warthog in a staredown contest with the wannabe Socialist Dictator who wears pantsuits made in North Korea …
I believe Hillary has a plan for America. I believe Trump has no plan for America and that is a good thing.
Only when you admire him first.
I agree with all of this. Except for the proposition that the Hillary-thing could ever be thought of as gullible. That term is reserved for her supporters.
All you can ever do- all you should ever do – is vote according to the dictates of your conscience. If that says Trump, vote Trump. If it says stay home, stay home. If it says vote Hillary… stay home.
Good post, short and to the point. You speak for millions of us who will wince and vote trump, hoping he accomplishes at least SOME of the things he talks about. The other option is to cast a “moral” vote for McMullin or Johnson, then pray she accomplishes NONE of the things she talks about, after you just assisted in her election victory. I’ll take option 1 every time. I hope some of the Nevers wake up to this stark reality, but it might be a lost cause for them at this point.
The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Theory.
I think that you are voicing the dilemma that a lot of voters face. I know that you expressed the sentiment that I am feeling. I haven’t voted yet but my experience will be much like yours. I may not know who I am going to vote for (either Trump or third party) until I am actually in the booth and faced with the reality of it. As of right now it is hard to commit when everything seems surreal.
That’s just what I was thinking.
A reasonable choice, but not the only reasonable one.
Maybe you did the right thing but I still think it will be easier and more effective for preserving liberty to destroy a corrupt overreaching Clinton Presidency and the Left as a movement than be corrupted by Trump.
Being against something evil is an ethically sane choice over becoming something evil hoping to reform it.
I think you nailed it.
