Is Anything Beyond the Pale for Donald Trump?

t1In case you missed it because you were busy enjoying your holiday weekend, Donald Trump celebrated American values on Saturday by posting the image shown to his official Twitter feed.

Get it? It’s a Star of David on top of a big pile of money? Like, c’mon, it’s not subtle. This is Goebbels stuff.

So, I hope I don’t have to explain how terrible this looks. It’s being called a “dog whistle” to the antisemites in the Trump coalition.

After realizing that he stepped in it, he took the image down.  There’s an edited version with a circle instead of a star. And, of course, Trump is blasting the media for making a big deal out of this, because six-pointed stars are a traditional symbol for law enforcement.

Which, of course, was clearly the intention of its creators. I’m sure it’s just a total coincidence that it originally appeared on this website which caters to white supremacists.

Now, taken in isolation, this particular tweet might just be a horrible, campaign-ending mistake. But it comes after a long line of, shall we say, questionable tweets, comments, and associations. Is it an accident that every alt-right white nationalist cracker in America is coming out of the woodwork to support this guy? He may not be taking them to the prom, but he seems to have no shame in flirting with them.

So I have a question for Trump supporting (including “reluctant Trumpers,” because you should really know better): How many times does he have to do something like this before you’ll stop supporting him? Don’t you feel ashamed or at least embarrassed? I’m not a Republican anymore, and even I’m embarrassed to have once been on the same team as this guy.

Is there anything beyond the pale for this guy? What does he have to say or do to lose your support?

(And for God’s sake, how can you want this man to be elected?)

No.  I am so convinced that Hillary is the worst that can happen during this cycle that Trump would have to shoot someone on Fifth Avenue to lose my support.

I never wanted Trump.  I am stuck with Trump.

I blame the GOP for not doing conservative things when they had their chance.  They lost so much goodwill that their voters were more willing to vote for Trump than for any of the other sixteen candidates.  Trump voters were “sticking it to the man.”   In this case they were sticking it to you and me as well as sticking it to the Establishment.  The country loses.

But I am convinced that there is much more to lose from electing Hillary than from electing Trump.

Support awful Trump.   Stop Crooked Hillary.

To be fair to Donald, he is probably too stupid to realize this.

Frank raises the ultimate question this cycle. Is this malicious or incompetent. I think the latter.

Not every six-pointed star is a Star of David.  Many sheriff’s badges are.  I’ve seen seals of approval that are, and that’s what I took this to be, as though she’d earned a corruption seal of approval.  Nearly every Star of David is constituted — to refer to another post — of two equilateral triangles.  Triangles are not filled; they are comprised just of the edges.

I am not keeping score of his campaign, but trust your numbers.

I agree with your concerns and criticism of the guy. Unfortunately your well thought analysis runs into the reality of the alternative(s) or lack thereof.

    Okay, just so we’re clear

These tweets are public statements. So that means you’re willing to give your vote, your sanction, to a presidential candidate who makes antiemetic public statements.

    Youre okay with that?

I feel no need to defend either of Clump. Since my horizon is Texit (or equivalent), that is my prism for decision-making.

They are both awful. If either is elected, it is bad for America. Which one of them is so very bad that Texas gives up even trying to get along, and opts out?

I would vote for Trump over Biden, Sanders, Warren, O’Malley, AlGore, Lurch, and even Webb. The clear inaccuracy of the second part of your statement suggests the inaccuracy of the first portion.

You are correct Fred about dog whistles.

The Star of David is just the most obvious dog whistle point out HRC jewish connections.  There are many more.

The Star of David was in RED.  An obvious dog whistle trying to brand HRC as a communist.  Which is silly since everybody knows she is a socialist.

Look at all that writing in white.  Obviously a dog whistle to the 95% of white americans that are racist just looking to vote to throw all non caucasians of their country.

The ad has a border.  Get it.  It is a dog whistle that he wants to close all the borders and deport all non caucasians and not let anybody in or out for any reason.

And the pictures on the dollar bills were of white men.  Get it.  It is a dog whistle to all his misogynist followers that HRC is a womyn and hates them.  As Slate magazine says DJT has only one core philosophy and that is misogyny.  This is proof that Slate is right.

Then there is the color blue being used.  Everybody knows that references sex, blue laws, blue movies, etc.  An obvious dog whistle pointing to Bill Clinton’s pornographic lifestyle and HRC’s enabling of it.

It is amazing how DJT being as stupid as everybody says he is can put all that in one ad on a twitter post.  If he is this good there is no way that he is going to lose the election.

my list wasn’t comprehensive.  But it starts with deluded thinking…. trump can be rehabbed, trump won’t be as bad once he is in office, trump really doesn’t mean what he says or does,  trump can be controlled,  trump’s bad isn’t as bad as Hillary’s bad…..

Do they place that symbol over a large pile of money? Did their symbol first appear on a white supremacist website? Context matters.

I don’t think he did this on purpose, I just think he’s a moron who doesn’t check his sources if it dovetails with his preconceived beliefs.

Looking for anti-semitism in everything Trump does is what the Left does.

His daughter is a convert, and by all reports, serious about her Judaism (perhaps the alt-right is too stupid to research that, or they don’t care) so to ascribe anti-semitism to Trump himself, is not supported by the weight of the evidence, IMHO.

This is searching for dog whistles where none exist.

I’ve said many times that I’m not voting for Trump this year, any more than I voted for GWB or McCain.  But if Republicans keep letting leftwingers jerk their chain like was done for this OP, it makes me tempted to reconsider.

Right…. as I said in my OP here.  If it was an isolated case… then yes chalk it up to sloppiness.
