The Messianic Era Is Upon Us

Yesterday, in his remarks at a White House Hanukkah party, after complimenting Ivanka and Jared on their efforts, President Trump said the following:

“I’m very proud that the Jewish faith is a cherished part of our family, very proud of it.”

Something special is happening here, and it’s only going to get better.

Depending on one’s understanding, it has always been with us. And even under other understandings, it has been declared as being here many, many times before.

I got you Ara. But still, who would have dreamed that a president would come along who would not only be possessed of such such feelings but would advertise them as well?

It certainly helps that he has very close family members who are Jewish.

Not only that, but observant, too.  Is that not a kind of miracle?

GW too was committed to the safety of Israel. In fact, he and Laura started the Hanukkah Party. I remember reading about the challenge the chefs happily accepted to make a kosher dinner in the White House kitchens. :-)

One of the reasons GW gave for taking down Saddam Hussein was the fact that he was offering and paying $25,000 to the families of suicide bombers. His interest in the safety of Israel was longstanding and sincere. I enjoyed GW’s presidency for that and many other reasons. GW was (and I’m sure he still is) a very close friend of Netanyahu. John Bolton was a GW friend and appointee.

When he was first elected, he hosted a meeting of rabbis at the White House. It was a great story. (That’s the only link I can find today, but the version of the story I read years ago was really funny. It was a personal account by one of the attendees, and it started out, “Imagine our surprise!”)

He is “walking the walk” when it comes to support of Israel.  Moving the embassy to Jerusalem was a defining moment and a statement to the world.

Because of the wall around Israel and the Iron Dome and the defeat of Saddam Hussein–a major supplier of terrorists to Israel–Israel is safer today than it was when GW began his first term. I’m sure given the daily suicide bombings that were occurring during the early 2000s that GW did not want to do anything to add to the risks Israelis faced every day. I wouldn’t hold a grudge against GW for his reluctance at that particular moment to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, for the sake of the Israelis and others living and working in Jerusalem.

And like everyone else here, I am thrilled that Trump has taken this step. And I would bet my life savings that GW is too.

Ha!  I can say that about my family.  My wife is Jewish, and so for the 28 years we’ve been married I have considered myself Jewish on my wife’s side.  ;)
