For Your Own Protection
A story is starting to circulate that the Odessa shooter was unable to purchase a firearm from a FFL gun dealer, and he purchased his weapon from a private party. Whether or not this is true it has nothing to do with the advice I have for my fellow gun owners.
I have sold firearms that I owned by selling them on consignment with an FFL gun shop. I received a receipt for the firearms that included the date that my firearms were placed in the possession of that FFL dealer. Upon their sale, I received a second receipt when those firearms were sold.
This does not mean that someone who purchased those firearms might not do something stupid or evil with those weapons. What it means is that the dealer conducted a background check, and I have proof that I didn’t sell the weapon to some moron without a background check through the NCIC and NCIS system.
How you choose to sell your guns is all up to you, but this is my advice.

Better advice: don’t sell your guns. When the Zekes come, yer gonna need ’em!
Well I sold them to replace them with another firearm.
But why? All firearms deserve our love. You tossed yours out like Andy tossed out Buzz and Woody.
Next will be rumors that he bought it at a gun show. Prove it wrong….
Amen, brother. Have a friend who ran into someone trying to sell a gun at a yard sale. (Not exactly legal in Michigan.) He guided them through the process of doing it properly.
If I were to sell a gun (unlikely), it would be to a close friend or relative, and I sure as hell wouldn’t tell the gov’t about it. That they need to know anything at all about what I may or may not own, and when, is nonsense.
All of my firearms were lost in a tragic boating accident.
Especially in this current gun-crazy environment it would be foolish to do anything other than by the book. Good advice, @dougwatt!
If I ever get around to selling any of my guns, I have a buddy who has a small gun shop. He’s already made it clear that he’d happily take them off my hands, if need be.
Coincidentally, these are the names of my taser and baseball bat.
