Debate Roundup, Night 2: Joe’s Back and Tulsi’s Coming with Him

The second night of the second round of Democratic primary debates was a livelier affair than Tuesday’s offering. The Wednesday Ten were Joe Biden, Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Cory Booker, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Andrew Yang, Mayor Julián Castro, Rep. Michael Bennet, Gov. Jay Inslee, and Mayor Bill De Blasio.

The breakout last night was author Marianne Williamson, who was the most Googled figure in 49 states. How about for Round Two? It was a 50-state sweep:

The Hawaii congressmember earned it. Her most striking moment was calling out Kamala Harris for her prosecutorial excess in California:

Harris made big gains in the first debate, so her opponents were ready to humble her. The former California AG seemed unprepared for the new attention and, by the halfway point, she played nothing but defense. Harris had the most to lose and she lost it.

Most improved was Biden, who corrected his tired, befuddled performance earlier in the month. He meticulously prepared for the second round, dismissing incoming attacks with sharp oppo research on his accusers. He still has lost a step from his glory days, but he seemed a decade younger than he did at the first debate.

Since Biden entered as the frontrunner and the other candidates spent plenty of time attacking each other, he won this debate.

Castro gained a bit of momentum in the first debate but did little to capitalize on it Wednesday. Booker was all over the place, criticizing the infighting (it’s a debate, Cory) before attacking Biden and others. His most memorable moments were introducing something called “marijuana justice” and dropping the S-bomb on live TV.

Gillibrand seemed to check out of the debate midway, utterly confused when the moderators asked her a question. Perhaps she suspended her campaign during the first ad break. It was easy to forget she was even on stage and she can’t be long for the 2020 race.

Andrew Yang has received a lot of attention from independents and was excellent throughout. He’s certainly the most earnest person on the stage, whipping out statistics and detailed policy plans on every subject. He also delved into Williamson territory by exposing the falseness of political showbiz:

We’re up here with makeup on our faces and our rehearsed attack lines, playing roles in this reality TV show. It’s one reason why we elected a reality TV star as our president. We need to be laser-focused on solving the real challenges of today.

Gov. Jay Inslee did well for himself, hewing to his all-climate, all-the-time message, while De Blasio again proved himself to be one of the most unappealing politicians in America. Rep. Michael Bennet remained a non-factor, as expected.

If CNN wants to keep hosting debates, or at least keep viewers watching, they need to greatly improve their coverage. There were microphone issues throughout, with feedback, clicking and unsteady audio quality. Not to mention the several interruptions by hecklers.

Break down the google searches by gender (if such a thing were possible), and I bet you’d find the large majority to be male – they just think Tulsi Gabbard is hot.

Compared with Kamala Harris, who is the face of toxic femininity, Tulsi Gabbard is a pleasure to the eyes and to the ears.

I thought it courageous of her to accuse the President of aiding Al-Qaeda, which is indeed an indirect result of US support of Saudi Arabia.

Otherwise it was an insipid debate. The Democratic Party has no policy, no platform.  They seem to be pinning their hopes on one of their number being able to prevent Trump from serving a second term.

    What then?

So it was Marianne the first night and Ginger Tulsi the second. The world makes sense. We’re on Gilligan’s Island.

Thanks Jon, for watching, so I didn’t have to.  Please just point me in the direction of which one of these clownfarts I need to sneer at for the next 1.3 years, and I’m good.

So I assume your money is on the actual most common searches being image searches for “Marianne Williamson young“ and “Tulsi Gabbard bikini“.

One can measure the media’s desire to promote Gabbard by their use of soft focus.

She has a very poor complexion that is not favorable to raw hdtv reproduction.

All elections are Flight 93 elections now because that is the mental gymnastics it takes to go all in on a piece of human garbage like Trump.  93 all the way down. Just crash the plane already all this storming the cockpit is getting boring.

50 bucks says the country survives if Trump loses in 2020. I will pay out in food, water, or ammo if I’m wrong and you come to collect. I’ll be running the cannibal biker gang of Southside Chicago. Look for the skulls on stop signs to know you are in my territory.

Unbelievable though it is, Michael Bennet is in fact a Senator from my home state of Colorado.

    Jon,

Just as a hypothetical, if Biden can stumble past the finish line who would he pick for VP. At this point as far as the electorate goes, his strongest choice would be Tulsi. However, that isn’t the way the Democratic Party works. She hasn’t put in her time. This isn’t her moment. Kamala has a better chance for VP than Tulsi because the rabid hyper-left needs the identity politics two-fer, black & a woman. Tulsi is a woman but she’s much too ‘white’.

Tulsi is in the wrong Party. That’s her mistake.

    Regards,

    Jim

To throw an election would be to lose it? Like to throw a fight? So you are, just to be clear, accusing me of being in favor of some one using  the national intelligence apparatus of the US  to make sure they lose their own re-election, because I’m from Eastern Europe?  I mean… sure why not? If some one wants to lose that badly go ahead.

In the unholy alliance that is the Democratic Party, several groups may think its their time.

Womyn: Yes, but they blew the last one.

La Raza: Heck yes (and the blacks (or demi-blacks or whiter) just had 8 years and we are much more numerous than they are).

    LBGTQ…: Yes, too.

Hamas/ISIS/Hezbollah: It should be too early, but as Tlaib and Omar (Elmi) show, these people are insane and have little self-control. Plus, Michigan and Minnesota are swing states.

Blacks: Time for a real African-American slave-descendant (but we’ll still settle for another pretender who can put on the dialect when he or she wants to).

    Antifa.

Whichever of these do not get the VP slot would have to be whipped into a murderous rage to achieve the turnout the Dems. want.

In all seriousness: my life is nicer when I get to hear nice music and look at nice things and think nice thoughts.

It has had a direct outcome to my personal quality of life not to pick up my local paper every morning and see Hillary Clinton glaring back at me from the front page.

Why wouldn’t I want the President of the United States to be easy on the eyes?

It’s nothing but an odd piece of trivia, but that would be 2008: [Hawaii]-Biden and 2020: Biden-[Hawaii]. I found it interesting that the 2008 Presidential election was represented by the 1st, 48th, 49th, and 50th states. Nothing profound though. Guess Obama should have picked Richardson as VP to make it 47-50.
