A Thoroughly Enjoyable Afternoon

If you weren’t somewhere you could watch the President’s news conference live, watch it online somewhere.  He’s no genius, but he’s smart and he refuses to treat the press as a holy messenger.  I really enjoyed his blunt talk.  I look forward to more press conferences like this.

I also liked his calm, measured tone when he told the press they were dishonest.

I have been in meetings while following the media freakout on twitter.  That alone is the price of admission.  lol

I heard parts on the radio in the car today – outstanding, funny, refreshing, I loved it and that’s only the parts I heard.

Thanks @viator.  Immediately after the press conference I was watching Fox, (I’m not usually home this time of day, so I’m not sure of the anchor’s name) and sure enough the take away was [paraphrase] “The President tears into the press.”  Not what happened at all.  President Trump was having a good time, he was as respectful as he ever gets, and just played the press like a fish on the line.

I was lucky enough to be home today & got to watch the whole thing live – what a shot in the arm, he was Classic Trump, the guy I supported & voted for.  Had me smiling & lol’ing all the way through.  Love the guy.  If I lived in FL, I’d be attending that rally this weekend.

It was audio and video candy for anyone who is sick and tired of media pomposity. His tone was measured, so don’t believe for a second that he was ranting and raving. It’s wonderful to see a president push back against false reports and defend his people.

I just finished watching the press conference. Over an hour long, but I had to watch it after hearing all the overwrought denunciations about how disrespectful towards the first amendment yada yada.

I loved it. He treated the press with all the respect they deserve. Which is practically none. You could just see the clenched jaws, the high blood pressure, the totally agitated press representatives getting ready to blow a gasket.

Trump was calm, measured, and got his points across.

I thought it was great, and predict that flyover country really enjoyed it.

He was right that the headlines tomorrow will be about how unhinged Trump is, and what a psycho rant of a press conference it was.

I think President Trump will do just fine.

He seems to be trying to do what he said he would do. He wasn’t my primary choice, but I’m glad I voted for him. We need to support him with praise where called for and criticism where needed.

I can understand why others are displeased in his delivery, but they have to focus on form rather than substance. The substance is great, and I, actually, am enjoying the form greatly. When he speaks… He is so transparent. He is the real deal. And his anger, it is righteous anger.

I enjoyed it. He is the medicine the media and country needs. In fact, it is hard not to be happy after watching a media training session.

Totally agree. I really liked, as others have already mentioned, how many questions Trump answered or at least tried to answer. Lets give him the benefit of a little political speak on some questions that were difficult to answer like the DACA question.

Also, I really loved how he flat out told the press that he wouldn’t tell them what he was going to do about specifics regarding Russian stuff or N.K.

Paraphrasing/summing up: “Just no, I won’t tell because I don’t give my positions away. And you aren’t helping me with all this negative press about these issues. You are making my job more difficult. Think about what Putin is thinking. He is going to think that making a deal is politically impossible with the way you report about it. Thus, he won’t even try for a deal. And that is a bad thing. Nuclear holocaust is bad. They have nukes, we have nukes. We should get along if we can.”

What was calm and measured about his tone? Trump is neither calm nor measured. You also recommended focusing on substance rather than form. Without form, substance is diffuse. So the case with Trump. Not only is he not a genius, he’s extremely inarticulate. Selling points are not made by constant repetition, poor syntax, and a limited vocabulary. How did an Ivy League grad from a background of privilege manage to speak so poorly? Of course, his inability to express himself clearly is old news. Despite that he won. Why? In short, he isn’t Hillary.

In order to bear his choice of language I’ve compiled a list of words he can’t manage not to use, over and over, when he speaks: unbelievable, amazing, incredible, great, “I tell you,” disaster, fake news (more recently). That’s all I can recall at the moment. What ever happened to “biggly”? My guess is these words are pauses when he can’t think fast enough where he goes next.

There’s a Rasmussen poll he cited favorably. He refers to polls regularly. Yet Pew is the reverse – biggly. In my view, acceptance of crude language that propelled him, with just enough voters, to an electoral college win is starting to fade. I don’t understand why he doesn’t use a teleprompter instead of speaking extemporaneously? And keep it short, including necessarily unscripted answers to questions at press conferences, to avoid the babble. Additionally, I think the excessive tweeting will wear thin, but maybe it’s just me.

The guy needs far more precise messaging to turn around the constant attack by the Dems, media, some in his own party, and internal bureaucracy still in place. Clumsy speech isn’t the answer. It not only opens the door to constant criticism from the left, but makes it harder to defend him against claims of incompetence.

Sorry, but I can’t join the cheerleaders in the Post and Comments.
