This is really interesting. Thank you, Editors, for putting this together.
Everyone is invited to announce their write-ins.
Surprised Jill Stein isn’t listed, since strategic Stein voting has been the subject of a list here.
I am likewise surprised. @jamesofengland will be disappointed, I think.
Max fixed it.
Any Ricochet member should vote in this poll, even if they can’t vote irl. Especially @titustechera.
I respectfully dissent!
Can’t vote. Not a citizen yet.
You’re a Ricochet contrib. You can vote here.
I’ll let you know as soon as I decide, myself.
I’m a little puzzled as to how many folks aren’t voting presidential. Is there no McMullin vote available in their states?
OK, Jill Stein has been added but the poll is still missing Alice Cooper and Harvey Wallbanger.
He isn’t on the ballot in Washington State, but there is a place to write in a candidate. Back in the days when I was still teaching my aide used to write me in in the presidential elections.
I was going to write in Obi Wan Kenobi, but the FEC has spotted some problems with his write-in paperwork.
I won’t know for sure until I see the polls before the election: if Trump has a reasonable chance to beat Hillary, I’ll hold my nose and vote for him (I don’t think it likely that we can recover from a leftist Supreme Court and a progressive Imperial Presidency at this juncture). If not, I’ll write in Sweet Meteor o’ Death (Ted Cruz has asked people not to write his name in, and I’ll respect that request).
I’m not voting for Gary Johnson or McMullin (much less the others) no matter what.
Why is that, may I ask?
That link is awesome. It’s real, isn’t it?
Vote McMullin. You’ll feel better about this awful year.
@titustechera, you voting while in country?
I am curious to know who is voting for Jill Stein and why? I know the arguments for Trump (lord don’t we know them all) and for McMullin (hero of the people and brave hobbit), and even for Hillary Clinton (burr a chill ran down my spine typing that), Johnson is self explanatory, and we all get not bothering, but Stein? That I want to know.
Where is the Constitution Party (Darrell Castle)?
Perhaps in a dark blue state it seems a more effective way of opposing Clinton. (Just a guess.)
Correct. McMullen is not available on the ballot or as a write-in candidate in Florida. Florida has registration requirements for write-in candidates. Apparently, McMullen was unable to fulfill them in time. @saintaugustine
Elsewhere, @midge has explained the strategy for this. If you live in a state where the Democrats totally run the show, it may be in the interest of Republicans to elevate the Green Party to the point that they are popular enough that they compete for votes on the left, thereby opening up a little breathing space for Republican candidates in the future, since the left’s voters will be split between two parties. That’s my understanding at least.
I’d write you in @fredcole, but as president you’d be too busy to write the Daily Shot. Can’t risk it.
If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve.
That being said, feel free to write me in.
Neither are candidates I would vote for in a primary; both support amnesty, Gary Johnson opposes substantive religious freedom, and McMullin seems to share the progressive belief that Republican voters are largely racist and sexist. They can’t stop Hillary, so there is no point in voting for them at all.
Bingo. Even though the Hildabeast is likely to walk away with deep navy blue California, there might at least be a healthy (and I use that term loosely) contingent of angry Bernie supporters (especially in the San Francisco Bay Area) and low-information Millennialls who were brainwashed growing up about how evil America is and how wonderful socialism is who can’t bring themselves to vote for Clinton. So, rather than let her win California trundling away, why not at least send a message that a substantial number of Dems (and some mischief-making conservatives) aren’t happy that she was the nominee…
…or I’ll just leave the Presidential selection blank and move on down the ballot.
Here are two screen shots of the current state of polling in the state. First from Real Clear Politics:
And a glimpse from Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight site:
Good question, I don’t even know if he’s on Georgia’s ballot, or whether he has any positions I don’t like (its not like the Libertarians nominated a Libertarian, so you can’t just go by his party ID).
Either way, if things look hopeless, I might still vote for SMOD, anyway, if only for cathartic purposes.
Darrell Castle. In some states he’s on the ballot: In Tennessee he’s a write-in.
