Tuesday was a buzzkill. How bad, exactly? Not sure yet... Arizona's taking its time again. Which makes it the perfect opportunity to have a surprise guest appearance from Ricochet's very own Jon Gabriel, Arizonan and King of all the stuff. Jon breaks down the state's second consecutive election breakdown. He's also got some pleasantly bold predictions!
Then we're joined by Luke Thompson, a key advisor for the J.D. Vance campaign. He takes us through his hard fight to get the outsider into the United States Senate, along with thoughts on the midterms as a whole, and some words of caution against tempting unifying theories.
The merry trio also find some reassurance in the mess of it all, even if they can't help but lament young people who don't understand good pop culture references...
Hosted by James Lileks,
Peter Robinson, and
Rob Long, with guests
Jon Gabriel and
Luke Thompson

Regarding Tim Ryan, I really wonder if the most important thing the right can do is make it very very clear to everybody that there is no such thing as a moderate Democrat. Nobody should think that things go back and forth between 70s style Democrats and whatever the right things they want. Voting is about voting against because that is the nature of the system, today.

I hear echoes of things from the Tea Party days...
I hear, "Vote for my unappealing person with an R after their name who often stabs you in the back - I know you the base don't like them, but you gotta vote R!"
Then the candidate I want wins a primary! But then I hear, "I can't vote for your terrible candidate you nominated! Ugh. I'd rather lose"
But I thought we vote R? Hmm. This seems... unfair.

That aside, as time goes forward more folks will coalesce around the New Post-Covid Rules of massive mail balloting, ballot harvesting, No-excuse Absentee ballots, etc. are what made this election the way it is. Think about for just a few seconds and you will realize that it's not as much the players (where there is fault here and there about comments, endorsements, money expenditure choices, etc.) as it is the New Rules of the game of ElectionTime. Not election day anymore, ElectionTime.
GOP gotta wake up and go do what Nunez did to win his last election - play their game better than them and win.
If we did, and we should have (who decided not to??) almost every one of these close races are R pickups. Look at NV, AZ*, PA, MI, WI, NY, CA - all these states have new ElectionTime laws made permanent from Covid changes...
*When Lake and the new AZ Legislature is seated, this will likely be changed, so yay there, but the rest - gotta play by the New Rules of ElectionTime

It's pretty easy to argue that Kari Lake is an authentic Maverick, but McCain never really was.

You also get sued for stopping someone from damaging a painting.
And maybe arrested.
They won't get arrested for damaging a rare painting, but you'll get arrested for "assault" or something if you "interfere."
