King Charles, whose personal carbon footprint is likely magnitudes greater than the sum of the carbon emissions of everyone who has ever posted on Ricochet.com kicked off the Irony Festival in Dubai (COP28) by declaring the “earth does not belong to us.” That is rather hypocritical considering how massive are King Chuck Windsor’s family land holdings. A big chunk of the earth actually is his. For a delightful take on this, see Brendan O’Neill’s Revenge of the Feudalists:

Imagine the brass neck it takes to pontificate to the plebs about their non-ownership of the Earth while you and your family sit atop vast tracts of land worth £1 billion. What the king should have said is: ‘The Earth does not belong to you.’ Rarely has the feudalistic streak in green politics been so fantastically exposed. Here we have a king of unimaginable wealth and unearned power flying by private jet to a tribal autocracy to wag his finger at the global masses over their eco-unfriendly behaviour.

The conference in Dubai is a gathering of many of the world’s largest carbon emitters, held in a country made rich through the sale of fossil fuels. Its ostensible purpose is to give policy grifters and subsidy seekers a platform to propose to make everybody else poorer.

In fairness, Charles is perhaps the perfect spokesman for the Anti-carbon cult. He is very rich and thus unlikely to be unemployed or otherwise adversely affected by catastrophic energy policies. He is not particularly bright nor well-informed in any depth. He advocates infeasible policies in response to nonsensical failed predictions. And he clearly enjoys the ego-boost of being an admired eco-warrior. In every respect, he personifies the movement.

I grew up thinking we should fear the rise of the next Stalin or Hitler when it turns out the most dangerous threat to our way of life is Bozo the Policymaker cheered by a horde of morons and frauds. Who saw that coming?

My wife calls King Charles a stuffy opinionated old man, not quite as polite as calling him eccentric. We have our own climate cultists that will determine what you will eat, the method you will use to prepare your food, how much heat you will be allowed to have in the winter. The list continues with how cool your home will be in the summer, how much power you will be allowed, when your lights will be on, and when they will be off. How far you will be allowed to travel.

Sometimes a wave displaying just one digit is therapeutic and has been well earned by the recipients.

There seems to be a correlation between the absence of talent/creativity/imagination and the desire to regulate and limit everybody else.

    Could not agree more.

In their way, they are the beating heart of capitalism: middle management stifling those same traits leads to entrepreneurial tendencies.
