I am pleased to provide you, the Ricochet Inner Party, with an advance preview of a new podcast series.
Good! You say. There’s not enough podcasts in the world. Thank heavens someone made another. Is it true crime? No - wait, don’t tell me, two snarky guys laughing at each other’s trite political jokes? I mean, that’s about it these days. You really can’t hope for something good, like a biography that’s funny, introduces you to a world when radio was king and TV was new, abounds with anecdotes about famous people (including one who scared you to death as a kid), tells the story of a Hollywood affair for the first time anywhere, and was written and performed by the subject’s daughter. I mean, no one’s making that.
Well.
This is the teaser for a 12-part podcast on the Private Life of Peg Lynch, told through her Daughter’s voice. Astrid wrote this delightful tale based on her mother’s voluminous letters, interviews, and recollections. It’s the store of a small-town girl of remarkable precocity who went on to write, star, and own her very own sitcom on radio and TV. The first sitcom, if you like - she’s been called the mother of the genre. Ethel and Albert ran on radio in the 40s, moved to TV in the early (and harrowing) days, then back to radio, twice. (Three times if you count the NBC show Monitor) It’s a story of two mediums, of marriage, of motherhood, and how this brainy, funny lady became one of America’s favorite writer and comedian, and how it all crashed to an end after 10,000 scripts.
Like! Subscribe! as the say. Note: not a Rico production, and I receive no $ for this. I'm posting it here because I've written about Peg - and England, where we did this - here on our Member Feed.

Will there be a proper podcast feed so I can subscribe and listen in my car?

Margaret Hamilton's voice is so distinctive. I was not looking at the video when she began speaking, as I was washing dishes while listening to that particular segment, but I recognized her voice right away - the Wicked Witch of the West!

Thanks, folks. The podcast will roll out first on YouTube, and eventually make it to some audio-only mp3 site. More to come - including the revelations about Peg's affair with a very famous Hollywood actor.
That part floored me when I learned about it.
