Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
When Democrats used to tell their supporters that global warming was going to kill us all by 1990, and then in 1990 things were pretty much the same, I was surprised that Democrat voters didn’t get angry at being lied to. How can they accept their leaders telling them obvious lies and not get upset? Now that Democrat leaders are telling their supporters that biology doesn’t determine who is a man or a woman, their supporters continue to just accept increasingly outrageous and obvious lies. And they keep voting Democrat. How is this possible? Hard to say. But let me give it a shot:
No one preaches with the zeal of the newly converted. They are so eager to share the joy they have discovered, and the hope and enthusiasm that they now feel. The whole world looks brighter to them. On the other hand, losing your religion is painful. Those who have lost their faith in God often lose their faith in EVERYTHING. They try to protect themselves with a blanket of skepticism, never letting anything penetrate their guard. They are negative and unpleasant to be around, and they disdain those who are more optimistic and trusting, viewing them as fools.
Socialism is a religion which traces its roots to the French Revolution. Its supporters claim that it was an effort to worship equality, although I view it as more of an effort to sanctify jealousy and greed. Whatever. It began in the late 1700s, was fleshed out by Marx and Engels in the mid-1800s, and was a dominant world force by the early to mid 1900s. Then it all collapsed. Fast and hard. The reality of its horrifying outcomes, which were worse the more faithful they were to socialist ideals, had become obvious to everyone. Even those who continued to call themselves socialists had to move away from its principles. Sweden, China, Russia, etc. – these formerly ideal socialist Utopias are now more capitalistic than socialistic in most ways.
There are thousands of immigrants who try to move from Venezuela to America every year. But very, very few Americans emigrate to Venezuela. Even Democrats, who claim to believe in Venezuelan policies – even they don’t want to live there.
Of course, not all members of a religion are faithful adherents. I have Christian friends who I don’t think really, actually, believe in God. And I’m sure there are many Socialists who don’t really believe that Socialism leads to a cooperative Utopia. After all, it never has, and they’re not stupid. But for various reasons, the skeptical Christians keep going to Mass, and the skeptical Socialists keep voting Democrat. Well, some of them, at least.
But like I said, those who have lost their faith tend to become very cynical. Now they don’t believe in ANYTHING. And when their leaders lie to them, they just shrug their shoulders and say, “Eh, everything is a lie, anyway…” They're not even angry. They're just resigned to a reality in which nothing is real.
They don’t lose faith in their leaders. They lose faith in truth itself.
They may continue to vote Democrat, if they can’t bear to publicly acknowledge their previous gullible mistakes. They may keep the bumper stickers on their car. They may even continue to watch CNN and vote Democrat.
But their leaders will tell them increasingly absurd lies, and they won’t care. They’ve lost faith in the truth. They’re no longer even interested in the truth. So the absence of truth has no effect on them.
They become dark, disillusioned, and bitter. It’s hard to care for others when your beautiful, optimistic faith has been replaced by an empty hole. So they love humanity, and they hate people. Until eventually they hate humanity, too. Eh, screw it.
I don’t have time to organize this into a cohesive essay. But you get my point. I think there is a reason that Democrat supporters don't seem to care if their leaders tell them increasingly outrageous lies.
Do you think I’m close to the truth? Or is this way off base?
I look forward to hearing your perspectives…

Of course there's a reason. I think it is that people of the left seek out leaders who tell them lies. Think of their leaders as the egg, and Democrats as chickens.

I know some good people who are democrats ( and lots of evil people who are democrats, but I am not going to get into that).
The good people who are democrats really don't pay attention to politics, or the effect of government policies. They want the approval of other people as "good people", which means aligning with popular naratives. And they all have the attention span of an Irish Setter.

If you believe a man can be a woman (not just act like one, "be" a woman) then you have no faith in truth itself.
So sadly, I think you are correct.

Towards the end of my walk today, I stopped by a former golfing buddy’s house. He was sitting outside with a friend. We started talking about health insurance. My buddy turned 80 this year. His former remarkable good health abandoned him last year. The other fellow is an 81 year old former pediatric heart doctor. All of us are on Medicare which is going through an upheaval at the end of this year. My buddy, who is an avid Democrat, said we need Universal Healthcare. I stated that is what I expected him to say because he is a Socialist. He took extreme umbrage. I just laughed and apologized. You’re not a Socialist, you just believe in socialist policies. The former doctor said he didn’t know how the business of healthcare worked. He was a salaried employee of a nonprofit hospital. I laughed again. His former employer just built a gorgeous 25 story building next to the hospital. They have facilities all over the city. That’s a lot of nonprofit cash flow I mused. The guy, another very nice Democrat, had no idea where the money came from. I know a lot of very smart and successful people who seem to have very limited knowledge.

Believing the outrageous lie is easier than admitting that you have been bamboozled.
