Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
The stage actor Harold Clurman once said, “The truth is like Castor Oil…it is bitter to swallow and people don’t want it, so you make them laugh, and when their mouths are open, you pour it in”.
A scant few from this era know what Castor Oil was, or who Harold Clurman was, but Google exists for a reason. They are easy to look up. That said, I put those two outdated terms for a reason. They are the most bitter, and sharpest, truths to an angry world that desperately needs them right now.
The sharpest truth is obvious.
Donald Trump is on you…every single one of you.
This isn’t to one side or the other. It’s to everyone, whether you like Trump or not. Personally, there are things I like about the guy and things I don’t like. He is super aggressive in trying to get his agenda across, an agenda that is definitely pro-America. He’s pro-business, pro-farmer, and pro-family. There is a love for the flag that has been slowly fading away since Reagan’s term, and I am not complaining about the attempt to sell this country as a beacon of light one more time.
But a lot of you missed an important point with President Trump. You fell for his Everyman con…the one where he convinced all of you that he was this working-class billionaire that was just like you because he played sports and likes sports, and hired thousands and thousands of blue-collar workers.
Remember that?
I admit all day long that I voted for the guy three times. Hell, the first time around, I was pretty much on my own with family and friends as Ted Cruz was the hot ticket (long story on that one), but I saw Trump coming the minute he went down the escalator. Easiest pick ever. John Kennedy invented the cult of personality in politics, Barack Obama reawakened it, and Donald Trump mastered it over the 40 years before his run for office.
But I always knew what he was…the best salesman of all time that could con a con with the greatest of them. Think about it, he was a Real Estate tycoon who built buildings in New York City. He also went into the casino business, Hollywood, and now politics. Four of the scuzziest professions any human being could be a part of, with fifth being Joel Osteen’s church, and sixth being Scientology(order of scuzz depends on the reader, of course).
So did you expect Trump to be comfortable at your barbecue because he watches UFC or something? He knows one name in UFC, and that is Dana White, and only because they are friends — there would be no UFC without Trump (long story for another day). He can name Rogan also, but that’s because Rogan had a hand in getting him a second term. Everyone is transactional in Trump’s life, and anyone else is entertainment. Watch him front row at a UFC event. It’s flying fists and blood. The names he knows are the ones that like him or voted for him.
There is the transactional side of Trump again, and that is fine. The world has gotten more competitive than ever. There’s a geopolitical competition over AI, who controls the world currency, world peace, the environment, and fifty thousand other issues. The winner will prevail in the dirtiest, nastiest, and bloodiest war for the soul of the world, and no feelings allowed.
Which takes me to the other half of this circus.
Democrats, did you REALLY think you were dealing with a reality TV star? You are telling me you took all his money and had zero clue what underhanded mobsters Trump was doing business with? Course not. You wouldn’t ask because they were most likely a good percentage of your own campaign donations.
Why do you have to wait for Trump’s name to come up on a billion pages of the Epstein Files? Wouldn’t you have random pictures with him on the planet? Maybe you would, but you can’t show it, can you? Means you were there also. You know good and well he’s waiting for you to step on your own trap.
Truthfully, we know where your anger came from. You had Barack Obama for two terms and inserted Hillary Clinton as the first woman president. Next plan would be a black woman, then a gay man (which explains building up Buttigieg), and on and on.
Then Trump stole your world on one fateful night in 2016…ironically a couple weeks after the Cubs won the World Series, another impossibility. Stole it so hard that they had to insert Biden to beat him and put Kamala Harris as VP because she was zero percent in the primary. Then we know what happened this election when you tried jumping her in front of the line.
What’s funny is that all they had to do was leave Trump alone. Don’t crack jokes to him at the correspondents' dinner. Don’t humiliate him. You had one job. Do that right, and Hillary annihilates Ted Cruz on election night. Trump ran because you bruised his ego. The rest is history.
I can go forever here. I can be the Trump supporter and say, “Look at the wars he stopped around the world.”Ehhhhh, yeah. Technically, they are ceasefires that'll last till he’s gone. All he did was threaten a large tariff on countries unless they stopped shooting. Not exactly high level negotiation and more like Moe from Calvin and Hobbes threatening to punch Calvin unless he got off the swing. Still, it did the job for now. It’s widely known that Trump hates war. Too many people die, and it costs too much money. Which order he cares about depends on the cult you talk to at the moment.
The difference between this president and the others is this one is scoring future business points, and the others scored future political points. This one is just telling you, with a wink, that he is doing it, and the others hid theirs. You think it is a coincidence that Trump brought up the Gaza Strip having beautiful beachfront property? Still, the cult of hate for the man is as insufferable as the cult of love. The media, both social and traditional, are leading you by the nose ring. He is a grifter of the highest order, but so is everyone in Washington, and they hate him, but they have a reason to hate him. He’s the walking mirror of their own immorality.
All of you with Trump Derangement Syndrome don’t know why you hate him. Felon in White House? White man taking the seat again? Hurts your feelings? There’s a daily reason your blood pressure spikes. I can tell you he couldn't care less about your hate. In fact, he loves your hate.
Why? Because it’s more attention on him. Try ignoring him. If he’s as bad as you say, he’ll mess up trying to gain more attention. If he’s as good as they say, you’ll reap the benefits.
Either way, go touch some grass. It’ll do wonders.

You don’t get rich in these bare-knuckle endeavors unless you are the kind of person who can emerge from the bottom of the scrum, laughing, with blood on your teeth. THAT’S why he’s loved. Not because he’s relatable but because we know that he’ll actually fight for us. Hard. In “the dirtiest, nastiest, and bloodiest war for the soul of the world”, with no feelings allowed, he’s a good guy to have in your corner.

If you take someone with the coconuts of Trump, who doesn't care that you don't like his break things tactics, and he succeeds in doing good things, is that better than the big smiles and let the world go to hell in a handbasket type of politician? You have to care about something yourself to start with. Like what? Start with the Constitution and the rule of law, protecting women and children from trafficking, families from drugs and crime and cartels, having clean, safe streets and neighborhoods, affordable food and fuel, working to create something from nothing rather than sit back and expect a universal income and free stuff.
You have to care about ending wars for generations that are suffering, and you have to care about what happened to the world under communism and totalitarianism. You have to read history and then, if you have a family, or plan to have one, you have to care about those children and grandchildren and what kind of world will be left for them. You have to have faith in God, faith in people, and building things creates jobs, homes, infrastructure, communities.
If only four years to try to right all those rogue ships on turbulent waters is all you have to try, at least you tried. He is far from perfect, but doing nothing has given us a lot of problems over the years. It's difficult, it's not a friendly moment to talk politics at the Thanksgiving table (or is it?). You have to care about life. I hope this makes sense.

Excellent post, Jacob, a very honest assessment. The one thing Trump loves more than the USA is himself. But considering how much he loves himself, being second to that is still a huge thing. One thing I have noticed in my relatively narrow view of U.S. Presidential history is that the Republican Presidents (especially Trump) didn't need to pursue personal financial gain during their tenure, and didn't. Then there is the trio of Clinton, Obama, and Biden, quite the contrast. This is a history starting with Reagan, so it is a recent phenomenon.

Trump is inarguably the most consequential politician in the world in the 21st Century (at least so far). And it was Democrats who made him.

Even on the actions he takes that I support, he is exhausting.
