Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
That’s what Karine Jean Pierre tells us about our conclusions drawn from the recent videos of Joe Biden. Whether he’s frozen in place, mumbles an answer to a reporter, or wanders off, we are the problem—not Joe Biden. Not only that, we are colluding with each other to doctor videos to implicate the president’s decline. The Left insists on creating its own reality and believes those who disagree with them are deceitful.
This is serious business, like something out of 1984. They are creating “the truth,” and anyone who contradicts them is violating reality. Yes, that’s what I said, “violating reality.” We need to be silenced. We need to stop disagreeing with them. We need to profess their reality to everyone to whom we speak.
And if we don’t? We’ve already seen on a smaller scale what happens to those who contradict and argue with the mainstream. They are condemned, canceled, censored, outed, and blamed for causing insurrection against the state.
Even better, they will find ways to further incriminate Donald Trump. They will construct lies about things he never said, or they will be the ones who doctor videos to create a scenario of Donald Trump blatantly defying the rule of law. When we protest what they’ve done, they will deny culpability, stating that these videos have surfaced from some unknown source. They will keep pounding on Trump’s foolish remarks about being a dictator for one day. They will give examples of his authoritarian behavior that never occurred. And we will keep protesting and shaking our heads.
For a while.
But eventually we will realize that it is actually dangerous to protest their claims. We could get hate mail. We could see people following us. Our pictures could be published as enemies of the state, and everyone—our neighbors, friends and families-- will find our stories hard to believe.
At some point, they will think that it is easier to go along with the Left’s reality than to fight.
They’ll decide they can’t trust their own lyin’ eyes.

For a brief time, I let my imagination run wild, just to see where it would take me. It’s a crazy description of the near future, isn’t it?
Or is it?

Of course, the people telling us this are the same people who told us that the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation, that Russia collusion was responsible for Trump's upset win in the 2016 election, that the over 500 riots associated with the death of George Floyd in the summer of 2020 which resulted in over $ 2 billion dollars in insured property losses and two dozen deaths were "mostly peaceful protests", that the idea that the COVID 19 virus originated in the Wuhan Lab was a conspiracy theory, that the 2020 election was the most secure and honest in our history and that people can change from one sex or gender to the other and men can give birth. The list of provable falsehoods by this crowd is long and still growing.

What a chilling piece, and too close to our current environment, Bob. I was relieved to read this, though:

I fear that many people are not convinced, tigerlily. I feel certain that there are many who believe in all those points you make, even though they have been disproven, over and over again. And I have no idea how we convince them of the truth.

In fact, those of us who don't believe these lies are probably seen as the ones who have been co-opted by the political Right. That's pretty scary.
