Here on the eve of war with Iran, I am not praying for peace. That chance has been exhausted. I never expected President Trump to start this war in the first place. Now I’m a little upset with him that he won’t finish what he started.

It’s easy to get lost in the details. Do we want regime change? Do we take Karg Island? What about our friends in Israel? What about the Kurds? What about the 30,000 protesters murdered? These are all important issues, but pale in comparison to the overshadowing one.

I have quite a few liberal friends. Most know not to bring politics up with me. Two people brought up the recent action in Iran. I want to share my simple response. All else is a side story.

I have only two questions.

#1 Is it Iran’s desire to build a nuclear bomb?

A nuclear power plant requires about 7% enrichment. There is no use beyond that other than making a nuclear weapon. The IAEA says they have enriched to about 60%. Do they want to build a nuclear bomb?

YES

#2 Do they have the desire to kill us?

I’ll ask Chat GPT…

The chant “Death to America” (in Persian, Marg bar Amrika) is still used regularly in Iran, but mostly in specific political and state-organized settings rather than as an everyday slogan among the general population.

It commonly appears at:

  • Government-organized rallies
  • Friday prayers
  • The anniversary of the 1979 U.S. embassy takeover
  • Quds Day demonstrations
  • Funeral processions for military or political figures
  • Speeches by hardline clerics or officials

So, the only people who chant "Death to America" are the ones with the finger on the button? Boy, that makes me feel better. YES, they want to kill us.

When a nuke goes off here in America and a child asks why didn’t you do anything when you had the chance, what do you say? If you sincerely answer YES to both questions above, how can you sit back and say the answer is to do nothing?

I would not be surprised in the least if they capitulate at the last moment. It's just another delay tactic. They can wait a thousand years. They don't care. They are committed to nuclear Armageddon.

(Meira K has a fantastic summary of their thought process in this video.)

I hope you're right, but I fear that Trump has lost interest in the war. He's moved on to prosecuting James Comey, throwing Stephen Colbert in the dumpster, indicting Raoul Castro, taking over Greenland, gloating over Thomas Massie's defeat, and slashing funding to NATO. All worthy causes, no doubt. Well, except for Greenland and NATO. Why in the H-E-double hockey sticks can he not drop Greenland and NATO? If he were as obsessed about Iran as he is about Greenland, we would have defeated Iran two months ago. I'm afraid the Iran war is the moment Trump 2.0 went off the rails. But he can still fix it all by re-starting the bombing.

I sincerely hope you’re wrong. Maybe he is coming off the rails. I don’t know. This is not like him. For Iran to send drones and shoot at us, while Trump says a deal is 95% there, is disingenuous at best. Maybe there is something behind the scenes we just don't know about.

I expect something more than a ten-year delay of Iran’s nuclear program. The thirteen service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this deserve better.

He is talking about Greenland again? Maybe he's reverting to his childhood.

Is the war still on the news programs that he watches? If not, that would explain how he would lose interest in it.

If you think of his childhood as being the childhood of his administration, there may be a connection. A writer at Newsweek says that "Trump's Iran Failure Began in Greenland."
