As I look outside at the decorations that adorn our street, the Chanukiah which lights our front yard and reflect on the importance of this day to so many, I feel a poignant sense of connection. Although my Christian friends are celebrating the birth of Jesus, it is not an event to which I relate. It is a celebration, deeply and spiritually their own. In one sense it even separates us (since I am Jewish) in our dedication to our faith communities and our families.
But I choose not to dwell on differences, but on the ties that bind us gently and lovingly. I embrace the commitment to faith that we share, and the devotion to G-d that comes with it. I rejoice in the love of life, family, relationships, goodness, and morality. I admire the effort that so many make to make this day special, to tell their story over and over again, to rejoice with music, tradition and while breaking bread. It is indeed a special time, and I am so grateful to be included as an American of faith.
Many thanks to my Christian friends.

This is what infuriates me about all of the anti-zionism reflected by "our betters". To quote a phrase I mostly dislike: "This is not who we are"
Have a blessed day!

It was in my lifetime when the Catholic church decided to allow Christmas trees. Until then they were officially not allowed because they were not christian, though almost everyone ignored that rule. So it was in the 70's, I guess, when Christmas trees were allowed in the church and decorated with very carefully religious ornaments.
Jews often think christmas trees are christian, but they really aren't. They are just seasonal decorations.

We just came back from a delicious buffet that our friends served. We were a small group and we weren't previously acquainted with the other folks. But we all were glad to be together, share stories and celebrate the gift of connecting.

In solidarity with you & all my Jewish friends, my girlfriend & I went out for Chinese on Christmas, as well as sushi & Indian on Christmas Eve. (It helps they were all that was open!)
Many thanks for your kind words, @SusanQuinn
