War With Canada

The petulant half-wits ruining Canada have started a trade war with the United States. This will work out about as well as the Crimean War's Charge of the Light Brigade into artillery. Expect casualties, job losses and inflation. The US will be just fine. Mark Carnage has an inflated view of his importance and Canada's.

Glenn Beck might be right about this stuff: there might be a pull factor propelling these considerations. Particularly for Maia Johnson, a Democrat political strategist hired to be the first-ever Chief Operations Officer in the PM Office. (She's a well-known campaign manager for Clinton and Harris.) So her motives to be at war with the Trump administration are quite transparent. But I think Glenn Beck has constructed a Rube Goldberg machine to explain the stupid behavior of the Canadian trade negotiations.

The push factor is politics—domestic politics. On August 31, three by-elections will be held in ridings in BC, Ontario and Quebec. Ordinarily this would be a walk for the Liberals to take these ridings, but the week before school starts? By-elections are normally low-turnout affairs. To ensure turnout, the PM must galvanize his base of low-information, elbows-up morons to ensure victory. After the resignation of the convict Steven Guilbeault (effective Aug 28), the Liberal Party will be down to 170 seats in a parliament where 172 seats constitute a majority. Without a majority, the NDP, Conservatives and BQ could spark an election and remove Mark Carney from office. (God willing.)

Another factor is the Alberta Referendum coming up on Oct 19. Patriotism and the rally around the flag antics work differently up north. Its left wing rhetoric that warms Canuck's heart. The Liberals view themselves as Canada's natural leaders and often (conveniently) conflate opposition to the Liberals' terrible policies with treasonous behavior. They even redrew the flag and put their party's own logo on it in 1965.

But I digress. Parliament will end its summer recess on September 21. The Liberals will be running against Trump in all 4 elections this fall. Sadly, Canadian TDS is endemic enough that this may work.

I'lI tell you up front that I'm, generally speaking, a fan of the Commonwealth and its gigantic branch in North America. These are the people who did more for D Day and the Manhattan Project than most of us know. Sentimental? Damn right.

I don't usually comment on Canadian politics. I was mad at Trump for not helping Pierre Polievre. Frankly I don't know if anything from the US side was going to make a difference, plus or minus.

No Trump was right to stay out of the election.

Liberals were already smearing Polievre as a Trump stooge. If he stepped in to help it would have been completely, disastrously counter productive. If you remember the Apple Eating interview, 2 years ago:

Looking at the last two years, did Canada really start a trade war or just not submit to being bullied?

Good relations between the U.S. and Canada are in both countries best interest. Expanded relations between China and Canada are not in either Canada's or the U.S, interest.

Both the U.S. and Canada can survive without the other.

    This!!!

Another example of a self inflicted wound all because of doubt personal vendetta from President Trump. Will the U.S. be okay…of course….has Canada been using unfair trade practices around the margins for decades…yes…but is also driving Canada (and Mexico) to other trading blocs stupid and shooting yourself in the foot….yes. One can improve trade issues without causing a trade war with your best friend. Just stupid….its all just stupid.

Canadian foreign, trade and economic policies are all driven by polling - not of the general public, but of the liberal base. Like left wing parties the world over its driven by faculty lounges and rapid immigration. Regular Canadians are not being consulted or even considered as these policies are implemented.

Yes, Canada started a trade war - but for its own internal political reasoning. Without a free media the government's propaganda is only weakly being challenged. Mostly on the internet, but occasionally a pundit on a talk show will ask a sharp question.
