Three random thoughts from my summer vacation

I was at a day resort where I saw this one 40-ish woman with her 5 or 6-year-old daughter. The resemblance was striking. The daughter was gorgeous. You could see that she was gonna grow into a beautiful woman. And it struck me. For all you mothers of daughters who are increasingly displeased by what you see in the mirror, remember: what you are losing, your daughter is gaining. The Cycle of Life.

When we got back home, I was looking at a picture of us when we went to swim with the dolphins. I saw this strange old man in the picture. I honestly couldn't figure out who he was. I ticked everyone off. The couple that was batched in with us, my wife, my two granddaughters, and where was I? Oof. I was the strange old man. When did that happen?

No matter how great it is, the best day of a vacation is the day you return home. Where you know where all your stuff is. Where the bed that is best for your back is. Where, no matter what weather comes, you've got the clothing for it. Where your loving pets are. Where you can make a midnight raid on the fridge, if you've a mind to. Home.

When you look in the mirror, is your father looking back at you?

Nope I see a complete stranger. Somebody took me and left him. I suspect Father time.

It's not always that simple. People say I resemble my father, but my next-older brother looks like our grandfather, which is not as good.
