July 20, 1969. Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin walked on the surface of the Moon, the first humans to set foot on another celestial body.
Twelve Americans traveled to the Moon and returned to Earth at a cost of about $28 billion ($280 billion today) just to say, let's be honest, that we beat the Soviets there. We left behind a plaque that said, "We came in peace for all mankind." If the Soviets had beaten us there, we can be sure it would not have been in peace and that it would have been for the glory of socialism and not for all mankind.
Let's celebrate America on the 56th anniversary of our landing on the Moon.

Russian politicians of that era always talked about the "working people of the Soviet Union." Our politicians are much superior. They always remind us of what they intend to do for the "hard-working people of America."

And yet there are people who think it's trendy to say the moon landings were all hoaxs . . .

I was totally into the Apollo program as a child. As an adult I collected all the autographs of the 12 moon walkers.
One of my most prized possessions.

When the Russians were trying to hit the Moon, around the time we were struggling with Ranger, each of their probes had a little metal football attached. It was designed to pop off and spring apart. Each part bore a Soviet flag. There was no doubt that they were trying to claim the Moon. Just like the Chinese will if we let them get away with it.

If they try, I hope we blow up all the equipment they land, and put up a second plaque in the middle of the crater, saying…
…and plant another American flag, for good measure.
