Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
Please excuse the use of “we” as opposed to I. I presume that what follows are very much majority views.
We agree that Biden’s open border policy was illegal, stupid, and harmful.
We agree that Biden’s open border policy was contrary to the wishes of a majority of Americans.
We agree that Trump’s policy of aggressive efforts to deport criminal aliens, plus less aggressive efforts to induce voluntary deportations of all of those here illegally, is prudent, appropriate, and necessary.
We agree that, separate from being prudent, appropriate, and necessary, such deportation policies are mandated by duly enacted statutes. ICE officers are performing their legal duty. The majority in Congress enacted the laws, and the increase in ICE’s budget was approved by a majority in Congress.
We agree, therefore, that those who harass and/or obstruct ICE officers are themselves breaking the law and are entitled to zero sympathy or support.
We agree that the entire notion of “sanctuary” cities or states is blatantly illegal, unwise, and intolerable under our beloved Constitution.
We can easily see that Governor Walz and Mayor Frey are corrupt politicians who are fomenting resistance to ICE for corrupt reasons.
We agree that Antifa’s opposition to ICE is motivated by a desire to destroy anything associated with capitalism. With Antifa, the issue is never the issue.
But, Antifa’s membership in Minnesota is measured in dozens, not hundreds. While Walz and Frey are the visible leaders, the entire Minnesota Democratic Party refuses to distance itself from Walz and Frey. They sit silent as Minneapolis descends into chaos. The entire national Democratic leadership either sits silent or blames Trump for a mini de facto insurrection.
Amy Klobuchar wants to be the next governor. Many in her party believe she is a presidential contender. She is silent. We assume Ms. Klobuchar is an astute politician. We assume she knows her electorate. Which raises the question with no good answer. What is wrong with Minnesota voters?
What are we missing? Yes, TDS is real and it is widespread. But, if TDS is this widespread we need a serious dialogue regarding how to persuade the afflicted. Calling them deranged may be true, but that can’t end the conversation.

I'm not in Minnesota so my perspective is generalized. Two things come to mind: the emotional buy-in aspect of what the Democrat Party sells, and; the failure of the Republican Party to show leadership. The first strongly promotes retention and voter participation, the latter promotes apathy. That's what I see on the national level.
For all the corruption hanging over Democrats' heads, the emotional commitment is why they continue to garner support. It wouldn't matter who was in office, if it were Romney the rhetoric would be the same. The only way to excise that is to interrupt the satisfaction they get from being on "the right side of history," etc., etc.. You cannot persuade someone of a viewpoint they are unready or unwilling to hear.
For all the haranguing over Trump, the failure of the GOP to show leadership is why people who never voted before or hadn't voted for years came out to support him. More specifically, it was the failure of the GOP to follow through on the principles and policies espoused during campaigns. Maybe people had their own version of the Democrat thing. As long as they could tout their principles, they didn't have to acknowledge the utter failure of Republican leadership even as things got worse, and now we're learning just how bad it was: taxpayer money for every cause working against conservatism.
In Minnesota, we don't yet know where all the money went, but some went overseas, some went to Porsche dealerships, and almost certainly some went to politicians, whether personally or to their campaigns. This is why Klobuchar et. al. are silent. Walz is done, it looks like Ellison is done, it just stands to reason Klobuchar benefitted and we will find out soon precisely how. I seem to recall some reporting on this at PJ Media.

This is the land of Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale, Amy Klobuchar, Al Franken, Keith Ellison and Saint George Floyd. 'Nuf said. They have a certain knack for not letting facts disturb their opinions.

I do not agree to all your stipulations. Not sure that matters. I do not think Klobuchar can win, since as a former Attorney General that enforced laws, she is too much of a "cop" for the crazy Lefties that have taken over the DNC.
TDS and Leftism is widespread. Maybe it is 20% or more of people. Maybe half of those can extracted from the cult, but I worry that we are doomed to have a radicalized population of cat ladies for decades to come. These people live comfortable lives and they will not change unless some great catastrophe comes along to change their priorities. I hope we do not get such a thing.

Maybe 2 things can be true at the same time:
1. The governor and mayor are guilty of escalating things as well as the protestors placing ICE officers in precarious positions which also heightened their unease. Many on Ricochet would for sure agree the left has been able to go about this business for decades with little repercussions and that ICE has been placed in harms way.
2. The Trump administration and ICE have also made mistakes and bear blame as well. Yes I think it fair to assume that many on Ricochet agree with immigration reform and maybe even immigration crack down but it can also be argued the administration has made some serious mistakes in implementation of this policy and others
Both of these can be true at the same time….but maybe not in 2026…

I think "blame" is not the correct word. ICE is following the same procedures and training they have had for years. I think new procedures and training are needed for this new situation. Not Trump's fault, but Trump's problem. Failing to adapt to new situations is a mistake.
