When someone is wandering away like Joe Biden both physically and mentally, there is a phrase that comes from the Scottish Highlands in a kind way to describe the wanderer. "He's away with the fairies."

At the recent G7 meeting in Italy Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister had to bring Joe Biden back from only God knows where for a group photo.

There is an independent streak among Italians and Giorgia Meloni has found it.

My mom and dad spent a year in Florence shortly after WWII. One of her stories involves train travel in Italy. Signs were posted in the passenger compartment telling travelers not to spit on the floor. My mother said that it offended Italians — after all, Florence was home to the Renaissance — and they had no desire to spit on the floor. Mom said they spit on the sign to express their disdain for the bureaucratic minders. She found it amusing and an appropriate response.

Giorgia Meloni is an Italian politician who has been serving as the prime minister of Italy since October 2022, the first woman to hold this position. A member of the Chamber of Deputies since 2006, she has led the right-wing Brothers of Italy political party since 2014 and has been the president of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party since 2020. Forbes ranked Meloni as the fourth most powerful woman in the world in 2023. In 2024 she listed among the most influential people in the world by Time magazine. - from Wikipedia

She has been called a fascist by progressive politicians and the media, but she doesn't seem to mind the nonsense. She is not afraid to get what she wants from the G7.

From Reuters:

Then, out of the blue, diplomats revealed that Italy had demanded the removal of specific reference to "safe and legal abortion" from the final G7 statement and also wanted to water down language on vaccination funding. Despite being isolated, Meloni largely got her way on both issues, using Italy's position as rotating president of the wealthy nation club to lead the negotiations where it wanted, diplomats who followed the discussions told Reuters. "Meloni is against abortion and always has been, so that was her red line and honestly we pushed early on. But when the presidency said 'no' that was that "said a European diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity.

She appears to be what Europe needs and what we need as well.

Team Biden says Joe went off to the visit the second parachutist. That is probably true, but shows that Biden has the attention span and focus of small child.

I would like to see this post promoted to the Main Feed, and I hope it gets there quickly. However, it seems to me to be mis-titled as "He's Away with the Fairies."

The post really isn't about Mr. Biden's undeniable and growing dementia. Rather, the topic of the post is actually about the leadership of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. She recognized what was happening; that an elderly and mentally incapable man was wandering away in a potentially risky situation, and she took action to fix it (in a remarkably thoughtful and sensitive manner). In doing so, she led the other heads-of-government, notably the UK, EU and other G7 participants, in "policing up" the wandering US President and bringing him back on task.

Across the board I'm impressed with Meloni, and her comments at 2022 CPAC (what I've listened to) reinforce my opinions. I wish we had a leader of such promise!

I remember PM Meloni's speech. She is excellent, and the brain-damaged press needs to learn how to write the word "right" without prepending "far" or "alt-" to it.

"Away with the fairies" is a great metaphor for Biden, coming as it does from the legend that "the fairies"--not always agents for good--would either spirit away or render witless those they'd chosen for any number of reasons (some of which are very weird, and most of which are country-dependent I think.) The more current and politically correct term I've increasingly seen this past week with reference to Biden is, "he's losing focus."

Thus, the White House excuses about him having his own agenda and determinedly stalking towards a parachutist (who--equally determinedly--appears to be ignoring him) in order to "have a conversation and deliver a thumbs up," when what Biden was actually supposed to be doing was staying with his fellow leaders for a photo op of all of them together, falls rather flat. (No doubt the group objective was understood by the rest of them, all of whom seemed to be on the same page; only Biden seems not to have received the memo, or to have had it hidden from himself by one-or-another variety of little people existing only in his mind.)

I quite like Giorgia Meloni too. But even if I didn't, I'd still think that--as the representative of the host nation--she handled Creepy Joe's latest faux-pas with dignity and grace.

"We are not their monkeys. We are not their rhinos. We are not the animals in their zoo!"

I wish we could find more leaders in the United States who could negotiate from a minority position and put points on the board for conservative causes .
