The naivete and ignorance of the world regarding Hamas and its goals is beyond belief. People keep crying out for peace, for cease fires, for aid to the Palestinians, as they choose to ignore the basic tenets of Hamas, because Hamas' goals violate the standards of civilized society. But until we understand and accept that Hamas will never stop fighting until every Jew is destroyed, the very existence of Israel is in jeopardy. The Covenant of Hamas (which explains the purpose of its existence), the incessant violence nearly always instigated by them, the violence against their own people (the Palestinians), their allegiance to taqqiya, their appeal to those who favor the underdog, and the lack of any evidence that they are willing to live in peace with Israel, show how we can begin to understand how bleak the situation is for Israel.
Few people seem willing to look at the Covenant of Hamas, which explicitly states its mission to destroy Israel. If you wish to read the entire document, you can go here. For a summary of the document, you can go here.
This document was issued on August 18, 1988, and says the following:
Its Covenant is a comprehensive manifesto comprised of 36 separate articles, all of which promote the basic Hamas goal of destroying the State of Israel through Jihad (Islamic Holy War).
The Preamble states the following:
Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.
Article 13 makes the following statement:
There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility.
Article 22 provides even more anti-Semitic details:
The enemies have been scheming for a long time and accumulated huge and influential material wealth. With their money, they took control of the world media…With their money they stirred revolutions in various parts of the globe…They stood behind the French Revolution, the Communist Revolution and most of the revolutions we hear about…With their money they formed secret organizations—such as the Freemasons, Rotary Clubs and the Lins—which are spreading around the world, in order to destroy societies and carry out Zionist interests…They stood behind World War I…and formed the League of Nations through which they could rule the world. They were behind World War II, through which they made huge financial gains…There is no war going on anywhere without them having their finger in it.
This is only a portion of the rhetoric from their Covenant. In all these years, Israel has demanded that Hamas accept its right to exist, but Hamas refuses to turn from its original mission.

Hamas has been persistent in its attacks on Israel. Aside from the rockets that are sent at random on many occasions, there have been over two dozen attacks of note since 1988. Almost all of them were instigated by Hamas. They also use their own people as shields by placing armaments near homes and in schools. When these buildings are bombed by Israel in self-defense, Hamas blames Israel for killing innocent Palestinian civilians.
The tragedy of this war is that people simply refuse to recognize the genocidal goals of Hamas, because the goals are so inhumane and irrational.
An article in The Federalist explains why the experts on the nature of Hamas are wrong and misguided:
Many supposed foreign policy experts — pundits, scholars, and officials — speak and write on the issue, often at length, with no consideration of the religious motives of Hamas and its supporters.
This absence demonstrates a desperation to have this war be an ordinary geopolitical conflict, with ordinary solutions of the kind experts are trained to offer. The alternative may be too terrible for them to consider, for there is no easy way to deal with a genocidal, baby-murdering death cult that has gained control over millions of people.
After all, if Hamas’ viciousness is tactical rather than intrinsic, a means to an end rather than the end itself, then a negotiated settlement could still bring peace. Then the problem is one of finding the right combination of Israeli concessions to satisfy Hamas. The conviction that this must be the case explains much of the reflexive anti-Israel tendencies among the professional foreign policy class. They think Israel could surely strike a deal to bring peace if only it would be willing to address the demands of the Palestinians.

It is alarming, with all the information that has been public for many years, so many people are prepared to see Hamas as the underdog in this war. The U.N. is prepared to send humanitarian aid, completely denying that Hamas governs the Palestinians and is only interested in restocking its own supplies, not helping its people. Non-Muslims are not aware of the Hamas acceptance of the practice of taqqiya:
Muslim scholars teach that Muslims should generally be truthful to each other... unless the purpose of lying is to ‘smooth over differences’ or ‘gain the upper-hand over an enemy.’
There are several forms of lying to non-believers that are permitted under certain circumstances, the best known being taqiyya (the Shia name). These circumstances are typically those that advance the cause of Islam - in some cases by gaining the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them.
Armed with “taqqiya,” how can anyone assume that Hamas will negotiate anything in good faith? Even when the truth is publicized, such as an errant Islamic Jihad rocket being responsible for a bombing next to a hospital (and not Israel), Hamas will not admit that they lied or even made an error. Besides, they are not prepared to negotiate.
Only the complete annihilation of the Jews will be acceptable.

The world's appalling reactions to October 7 have thrown a new light on events in the middle east. It's painful to realize that Israel has already lost this war, that every victory is just a delaying action. In reality, the unrelenting hostility of the Arabs cannot be overcome while the western world turns to self-loathing. I don't know what is the best answer for Israel but I would not foresee its continued long term survival. Once Iran has the bomb, courtesy of Mssrs Obama and Biden, it's all over.

I agree. Once Iran has the bomb, they will use it.

If there is such a thing as "criminal naïveté" that is the best face that anyone could put on someone believing Hamas to be peaceful with Jews (or likely anyone). The worst, of course, is wanting Hamas to fulfill its mission.

This is horrible to even think about. would Iran be able to develop a powerful Abomb without testing it? Probably not. Would testing one cause WWIII? I think the Saudis and Israelis could agree on some preemptive action.
