You may have heard that Shooter Jennings has been working on this project. About ten years ago, he found several hard drives with a bunch of tracks by his dad that were never released. It's not unusual for an artist or band to record more stuff than ends up going on an album. Many of these songs were incomplete. They all had vocal tracks and some instruments, but not necessarily all of them. Shooter decided that he wanted to complete them and make them as original as possible, so, to the greatest degree possible, he brought in the musicians from Waylon's band to record the missing elements. In one case, there was a piano track from a particular keyboardist who came in and recorded an organ track for the song that he played piano on forty years ago.

Shooter says he's got enough for three albums, and the first one, Songbird, was released a few days ago. I bought the album and I like 9 out of the 10 songs. You can listen to the full album on YouTube. And yes, the title track is the Christine McVie composition that she did for the Fleetwood Mac album, Rumours.

This is really terrific news for us old (and in the way) classic country music fans.

I’ll have to give it a listen. Thanks for the heads up. Not crazy about Songbird, though, especially a Jennings cover.

He doesn't sing Songbird as purty as Christine.

I'll have to listen to the others.
