Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
Not the most important thing going on now, but I wanted to spare a few words for Eva Vlaardingerbroek.
The young female Dutch political activist Eva Vlaardingerbroek (those Dutch with their last names) has evidently been banned from entering the UK. She posted on social media about British government paperwork she received informing her of the newly minted verboten status. Reports cite that her presence in the UK “is not considered to be conducive to the public good.” So one might ask why the UK government is so threatened by her to be suffering from approach anxiety? Is she some kind of organic milk-bottle-toting terrorist? An instigator of a new Orange revolution in Britain? Or simply an objectionable activist woman with natural hair color who is not covered in tattoos and rings? What gives?
I first became aware of her through another commentator. Vlaardingerbroek was speaking out against European Union rules regarding how farmers are being treated in Europe, but most specifically in the Netherlands. Apparently there are a host of issues that Dutch farmers are contending with to remain alive. Allegations that onerous EU rules were undercutting their ability to farm and sell products. That, along with rumors of their farm lands being targeted for acquisition. But that's not what likely got her in hot water with the UK.
Vlaardingerbroek is also a forceful anti-immigration advocate. She has pointed out that European countries (including the UK) have allowed unfettered mass migration of people and that this has caused strain on the populations receiving them. This has evidently led to her being labeled a "conspiracy theorist" pushing a dangerous idea of the "great replacement." Well, no matter how you want to word it, mass migration and seemingly uncontrolled immigration into various areas around Europe have resulted in conditions that cannot go unnoticed. Simply noticing and commenting might be considered untoward by itself. And Vlaardingerbroek has both noticed and commented.
Of this hazardous noticing habit, perhaps the most sensitive observation deals with the surge in violence and sexual assaults against women and girls—especially young girls, some not even past puberty. Vlaardingerbroek posted on 9 January that Sir Keir Starmer had allowed “the ongoing rape and killing of British girls by migrant rape gangs.” Highlighting years of abuse of native British girls and subsequent cover-up by authorities is not an activity that will make you a friend to British censors. This Dutch woman apparently is not among those who want to take the issues lying down. But Vlaardingerbroek's greatest sin against the British state might be her opposition to Sir Keir Starmer's desire to ban the social media platform X from the British population (or at least the ability to throttle it).
From the Independent UK article:
She [Eva Vlaardingerbroek] said: “It was about that he's saying that he wanted to ban X because of the Grok edits and women's safety as a pretext as to why he thought that the ban would be a good idea.
“I said that that was really rich, given the fact that he has a really bad track record when it comes to fighting the migrant gangs who are raping British girls.
“So it's kind of interesting that this man now seems to care about women's safety, all of a sudden, really doesn't have his priorities straight. So I said he's a despicable, evil man.”
So this Dutch gal can have a sharp tongue at times and doesn't follow the party line. As the UK becomes a post-free speech surveillance state, the Labour government apparently will ban "agitators" from abroad.
To compound her problems with the UK, Vlaardingerbroek spoke out against draconian COVID lockdowns. Worse yet, she expressed reservations about repeated AstraZeneca COVID shots for women still interested in having children due to the lack of data to rule out possible complications. I knew of one young woman who passed on a job because getting a COVID vaccination series was required. She was looking to start a family, so she did not want to even risk a 0.1% chance of an issue in the event of pregnancy. For full transparency I took the JJ COVID vaccine willingly, but I certainly understand the apprehension for certain women. Especially since there is a documented history of doctors giving pregnant women drugs that could cause complications. Because of this, I don't think these women should be forced to use drugs that are on emergency status or have not been fully vetted with comprehensive clinical studies. Though in the case of Vlaardingerbroek, her refusal to take repeated AstraZeneca shots does not appear to have had negative effects on her visible outward health.
Depending on what media you read, you will see her described in different ways. Terms like "activist," "right-wing," "far-right," far-far-right," "extremist right," "MAGA Dutch," and so on. But however this Firecracker is labeled with prefixes, one thing is clear: Eva Vlaardingerbroek is too much of a handful for the current UK Authorities to handle.
PS. Apparently Reddit has a thread for Eva Vlaardingerbroek that has also been banned for lack of moderation. I don't use Reddit, but I stumbled across this while doing a search.

Just being a farming advocate would be enough. UK isn't treating its farmers well these days. Who would have expected Clarkson to be a leading voice for farmers? Well done.

Apparently this is what got the PM’s panties in a twist:
Eva is a sound voice in Europe - they should be encouraging more like her rather than all the Muslim rapists who seem to get preferential treatment.

It is so sad to read so often about the state of life of girls in England now.
A million years ago, too many for me to find a source, when I was in the tenth grade in high school, we were studying slowly and carefully Charles Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities. My teacher said something that would be verboten to say today, that one of the several themes of the book was the difference between the way women were treated in then-uncivilized Europe versus civilized England. He said women were treated better in England at that time (1789) than they were treated anywhere else in the world, including the rest of Europe. Women were well educated, for example, in England.
Protecting girls and women from rape is the number one most important thing a civilized country does. We take that for granted, but it is still somewhat miraculous when and where it happens.
It appears England has forgotten that history.
