Haiku lines please me
They’re so easy to express
Unless I get stuck
Free to be myself
In a moment of breathing
Deeply and fully
**********************
The morning greets me warmly
As I stumble through the heat
A cardinal waves as it flies past
A cloud sends slips of white
A deer looks up and sees me
We hold each other’s gaze
She finally springs into the brush
I silently say good-bye
The trees still grasp their summer leaves
Before they let them fly
I hope they stay around a bit
And crown the Fall with gold

Did she say something about doggerel? This must be our Doggerel of the Day, a way to have a bit of fun that does not have to meet high standards of prosody. If you would like to participate, we still have several openings this month, and you can sign up for them here: Doggerel of the Day October 2025 Sign-Up Sheet.

Well, it's happened again. Haiku. Years ago just after the Unibomber was captured there was a Haiku contest. Just coincidence, but I've never forgotten this one:
My daddy said "Bang"
When he taught me about sex
I misunderstood
No, I am not the guilty one.
