Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
Tuskegee University now prohibits durags and revealing clothing, and encourages students to dress as they would in a professional business setting. Cell phones are barred in class without the professor's permission. Faculty and staff have been empowered to call out students who do not meet the new standards. Students are expected to prepare a resume two years before graduation, to seek internships, and not miss classes.
If not outright fascism, it sounds a lot like generic "whiteness," especially if punctuality is imposed.
How will students find time to demonstrate on behalf of Hamas and global communism if they are doing the whole serious job preparation thing? As for career prep, shouldn't they be learning a range of barista skills for competing with Ivy League graduates?
What if this toxic injection of functional readiness for employment conflicts with ideological indoctrination programs intended to produce the kind of angry and useless people needed for the revolution?
What if word gets out that these students have been formed to be productive and ambitious, respectful of employers, customers, clients and co-workers instead of being trained to point out racist, homophobic, climate-violating attitudes while also demanding a huge starting salary? Wouldn't that create a grossly unfair advantage in the job market?

It sure would give them an advantage, and I love it! It's about time that our black citizens learned how to function in the real world, not their imaginary world of anger and oppression. Good on them!

It seems to me that there will be a binary outcome here ... either other HBCUs (and perhaps a wider swath of colleges and universities in general) will follow; or Tuskegee will abandon these new regulations entirely. I hope that reason prevails. But when was the last time that happened?

I once saw a short doc about the first white valedictorian at Morehouse College.
He said he chose that school because it's one of only four men's colleges left in the United States and one of the few colleges that teach the conservative (although he didn't use that word) values of discipline and responsibility.
I cannot find the doc on YouTube. YouTube does have a few news reports about the guy (Joshua Packwood), but none of them really go into why he chose the college.
I dunno if the school still has the same "discipline and responsibility" ethos. He graduated from Morehouse almost 20 years ago (he's an investment banker now).

The preferential treatment of minorities and women that developed in American society following the civil rights legislation in the sixties and morphed into a hollowing out of educational institutions with Randi Weingarten as one of its leaders has now seen the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) join a lawsuit directed at preventing the government from requiring English language proficiency in order to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) required to drive 18-wheel trucks on American highways. Several deaths have recently resulted from accidents caused by illegal immigrants having been granted CDLs who have obtained licenses without speaking or reading, IOW without understanding, English.
Now we are in the mode of treating legal and illegal activities as if they are equal.

Weingarten opposes standards both out of support for illegals like a good Democrat operative but also to prevent the notion of standards being applied to education.
