I recently reposted a meme on social media that caught my attention, featuring a woman (presumably) covered head to toe in a garment known as a burqa. It’s built along the lines of a tent made for walking, and it’s the regalia of choice for women in certain quarters of the Islamic world. Specifically, it’s the regalia that the men over there choose for women who have no choice, in keeping with the real “war on women” that’s been going on for 1,400 years and counting.

At any rate, the caption on the photograph called for banning the burqa here in America. A friend asked if I’d really support such a prohibition in light of the First Amendment’s free speech protections and told him I’d need to chew over that one for a bit. Well, I’ve done enough chewing to turn into a cow, so here we go:

Is there a point at which tolerance of the intolerant becomes fatal? Was Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson correct when he warned in 1949 that, "There is danger that, if the Court does not temper its doctrinaire logic with a little practical wisdom, it will convert the constitutional Bill of Rights into a suicide pact." If there is indeed such a point, how can we know when we’ve reached it?

A few days ago, Christmas Eve to be exact, Mark Steyn described the holidays as a time in which, “To Christianity, this is the season of Advent. To Judaism, this is the climax of Hanukkah. To Islam, this is a target-rich environment.” Put another way, a nation’s proximity to catastrophe is as tangible as the bloodied corpses on Bondi Beach, where a father and son duo carried out their ISIS-inspired obligations by opening fire on Jewish beachgoers, killing 10-16 people and injuring dozens more. Because nothing screams “religion of peace” like mowing down innocents in their flip-flops.

“Yes, but what has any of this to do with wearing a burqa?” you ask. The connection, though tangential in nature, is emblematic of a creed based on the continued subjugation of women and the eradication of all nonbelievers. Professor Gad Saad, who wields satire with surgical precision, refers to the Burqa as a “Freedom Veil,” simultaneously ridiculing the “suicidal empathy” of progressives while highlighting the savage reality for women who choose not to wear a burqa and are gently corrected by means of assassination. We can't say that Jihadists have been coy about their intentions:

  • “We promise you with further attacks on your soil... until the black banners [of Sharia] fly over your cities." - Abu Muhammad al-Adnani (ISIS spokesman, killed 2016)
  • “We have to be in the halls of Congress, we have to be in the newsrooms, we have to be in the classrooms, we have to be in the books, and we have to be in the courts." - Nihad Awad (CAIR Executive Director, linked to Muslim Brotherhood)

Then there’s this lovely photo, courtesy of MEMRI, with the following description:

On September 4, 2024, the pro-Islamic State (ISIS) Had Al-Aswar Media Foundation released a poster titled "Jihad in Europe!" The poster depicts a masked figure with an ISIS flag and a map of Europe in the background. Two stylized hands are also depicted, one grasping a bloody knife and the other with its index finger pointing upward in a gesture which signifies the "oneness of God" in Islam.

The lower third of the poster displays a quote from an editorial that appeared in issue 458 of the ISIS weekly Al-Naba' magazine, published on August 29, 2024, [1] which was also titled "Jihad in Europe." The excerpt is directed at "young zealous [regarding their religion] Muslims" and asserts that "the most terrifying and sustained killing operations in the history of Europe and the U.S., which wore down the crusader investigative agencies, were carried out with a knife, a hammer, and perhaps even less than these.”

The poster also states that the investigations of these attacks went on for many years and occupied "generations of investigators and officers." It urges young Muslims to perpetrate similar attacks "for the sake of Allah, in the framework of jihad, fighting, and terrorizing Christians and Jews, and with the aim of wearing down government institutions and security agencies, especially inEurope and the US."

When people who intend you harm come right out and say it to your face, take them seriously. The damage is much more extensive than Bondi Beach, or the ISIS inspired truck attack last New Years Eve in New Orleans (14-15 killed, 57 wounded), or the Magdeburg Christmas Market Attack in Germany (killing 6 and injuring over 299), or the Aschaffenburg Knife Attack in Germany where an Afghan failed asylum seeker attacked preschool children and others, killing 2 (including a toddler) and injured several.

From Professor Saad’s book, The Parasitic Mind, we read that, “As of July, 2018, there have been 35,339 Islamist terror attacks [since September 11, 2001] in nearly 70 countries. This is astronomically higher than all other religions combined.” Meanwhile, Australia, France and Germany have all cancelled New Years Eve celebrations in key parts of their respective countries rather than expose their citizens to yet more diversity stabbings, shootings, bombings and diversity sexual assaults from that bloodthirsty creed which seeks to fly their black flag of death over Europe and America.

What, at this point, can we do? Again, from Mark Steyn: “As I have said, we have at max a decade-and-a-half to prevent a thousand years of darkness - the long Eurabian night. In 1900 Europeans comprised 25 per cent of the world's population. Today they are nine percent. By century's end they will be five per cent - and entirely irrelevant.”

In short, the conversation has moved beyond a question of banning burqas. Ban the face covering if you like, to adhere to constitutional decorum. We’ve already banned our domestic thugs from wearing their hoodies and face masks to conceal their identity, so why not extend the prohibition to international thugs as well? But it's just window dressing at this point. Make no mistake, unless we value clarity over ideological comfort and quickly get a grip on the contingent of holy warriors that have secreted themselves into our communities across the country, we will have a lot bigger concerns than whether to ban a walking tent.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni recently moved to deport an imam whom authorities accuse of promoting a jihadist or pro‑Hamas line. Naturally, some jurists in that country (as in ours) are trying to block her efforts by placing the lives and very existence of their country far below their efforts to see how many judicial prevarications can dance on the head of a pin.

Prime Minister Meloni is correct, as is President Trump in his deportation efforts. Meanwhile, our own judicial authoritarians and the progressive contingent are tolerating us all to destruction. Constitutional protections should not be applied in ways that endanger America's and Western Civilization's very survival.

You don’t understand. The progressives fully agree with the jihadis that America, and Europe, eg, Western Civiluzation and Judeo-Christianity, need to be destroyed and subjugated. Common cause all the way up, down, around, and through.

This and variations on it have been a popular sentiment for decades. Every time I hear someone compare the Constitution to a suicide pact, what follows is the suggestion that some other group of people needs to have their rights restricted.

The number of terrorist incidents in the name of Allan need not be limited by September 11th, and if they are not, the disparity in the number of such attacks goes up, not down. "Religion of Peace" may not be the stupidest thing a president named George Bush ever said, but it's safely in the top three.

It does not seem clear to me at all that a man's right to free speech extends to him dictating what his woman may wear.

    Spot on.

Happy to see your references to Mark Steyn - he has been on top of the Muslim problem for a long time. I linked to this article on another post but it is worth re-reading:
