Brian Burch, former President of Catholic Vote, has been confirmed by the Senate as Ambassador to the Holy See.

This is great news for Catholics in the USA. We have a solid, orthodox Catholic as ambassador to the Holy See at a time when we have the first American pope. This may not seem like a big deal, but the Church in the USA has been very misunderstood for the past 12 years. I expect Ambassador Burch will do a lot to change that misunderstanding.

That’s the good news.

That it took so long for a vote to confirm Mr. Burch (had the process moved at any sort of realistic pace, we could have had an ambassador at the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV), and that the vote for confirmation was only 49-44, is sort of mind-boggling.

Not a single yes vote from a Democrat. Why would they be opposed to this man?

Do Democrats vote yes for any of Trump’s appointees?

Our Senate and politics are broken, but we Catholic Americans have a good man representing us at the Holy See.

Rubio was approved unanimously. A senator thing, most likely.

Brian Burch of catholic vote.org was not going to get any Dem votes. This should come as no surprise. Traditional Catholics voted for Trump. Catholic Dems and some Republicans are CAINO (Catholic In Name Only).

The Catholic Church in the United States is part of the worldwide Catholic Church in communion with the pope. With 23 percent of the United States' population as of 2018, the Catholic Church is the country's second-largest religious grouping after Protestantism, and the country's largest single church if Protestantism is divided into separate denominations.

One exit poll from The Washington Post (WaPo) found that Catholics across the country backed Trump over failed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris by a landslide margin of 15 points.

Certainly an improvement over our hometown zero Joe Donnelly.

I'm glad that the US ambassador to the Holy See is a solid, orthodox Catholic. It always bugs me that nominal Catholics who deny so much Biblical truth get all the attention in the media.

However, I have one quibble - the US ambassador to the Holy See is not representing American Catholics or the Catholic church in America. He represents the American government and indirectly all the American people to the Holy See, whether or not they are Catholic.

We do want our ambassadors to be culturally competent.
