On the recent occasion of the anniversary of D-Day, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, while in France, delivered a very J.D. Vance-like address that questioned the wisdom of current European leaders who seem cluelessly bent on the self-destruction of their own civilization. As you may recall, Vance made a provocative speech in Munich in February 2025 which chastised European leaders not only for their increasingly authoritarian bent, but also for the utterly senseless mass immigration they were foisting upon their own unwilling citizens. Naturally, Hegseth also touched on the topic of mass immigration and its potential consequences, which are, as we all know, if something doesn’t change, that Islam will conquer Europe without firing a shot and that will essentially be the end of Western civilization, at least as it exists on the continent.

Woke European leaders are no doubt growing tired of such speeches from Trump administration officials. Lost in their self-loathing, white/colonial guilt and the fantasies of their diversity ideology, they simply cannot be reasoned with or convinced of the foolishness of their current path. Nor is their Trump Derangement Syndrome conducive to their comprehension of what to the rest of us is as obvious as the nose on Charles De Gaulle’s face.

In any case, a certain well-known British historian, Simon Schama, who happens to be Jewish, condemned Hegseth for his speech and its inarguable points. On social media he said the following:

“This is a special kind of loathsomeness: a blend of historical deafness, grotesque stupidity, and comically ludicrous self-importance. As if the little people’s rage against immigration somehow is superior to the war against the 3rd Reich and entitles this comic book nobody to lecture the actual heroes.”

Hmm . . . I’m pretty sure “the war against the 3rd Reich” wasn’t waged to liberate the continent so several decades down the line it could give itself up to Islam, which, in terms of pure Jew hatred, is at least an equal to Nazism.

Well, at least Schama’s rant wasn’t peppered with the F-word like so many on social media, but that was its only redeeming quality. If you want an example of an intellectual whose head is lost in the empyrean clouds of diversity dreamland, this guy is it. And since he brought it up, let’s talk about that 3rd Reich for a moment.

You would think that a guy who is both Jewish and an historian who understands the long, sordid history of anti-Semitism, which culminated in the 3rd Reich’s Holocaust, would not be quite so sanguine about importing millions of Muslims into his own country, the majority of whom are anti-Semitic, tend to deny the Holocaust and look forward to the next one. That sounds like “historical deafness” and “grotesque stupidity” to me. Or is there something I’m just not getting here, something that can only be perceived by a deep intellect like that of Professor Schama?

But I’ll just ask the question: Why is he okay with the mass immigration of Muslims who are overwhelmingly anti-Semitic, and besides that, largely incompatible with Western civilization? What kind of logical sense does that make? What kind of intellectual contortions must be undergone to be okay with that immigration?

Well, though you might expect some kind of impossibly intricate pretzel logic, it would appear to be much simpler. “In my case,” Schama said in an interview with the left-wing Guardian, “it’s such a pleasure that there’s a Persian cafe around the corner from my flat in London.”

Ah, yes! Only the insufferably stupid and bigoted could possibly enjoy life without that delightful benefit of diversity. So, for the convenience of an ethnic cafe just around the corner, Schama would give away his country and his civilization. By Jove! Jolly good! But I’m guessing the overwhelming majority of Brits would settle for their traditionally bland fare, and an occasional inconvenient drive across town for something spicier, in order to keep their civilization.

But in all fairness to Schama, there’s more to his love of immigration and diversity than just the ethnic restaurants. It’s also because of his own family’s experiences in the Jewish diaspora. Because of pogroms and general anti-Semitism, his family members, like so many other Jews, had to leave one land and immigrate to another. Thus, he has a soft spot for immigration. But he’s also a bit soft in the head about it because . . .

Well, should we tell him? Should we divulge that all immigrants aren’t the same? That they aren’t all of the same quality; that they don’t all bring the same benefits to the host country; that they don’t all wish to assimilate; that many actually hate their hosts; that many wish to install their own laws and customs and eventually conquer the host country? Wouldn’t such information be beneficial to the government elites and pointy-headed intellectuals who recommend the overrunning of their countries with incompatibles without a thought in their heads for the potential consequences?

Alas, they already know that. But the diversity delusion is so powerful that it overwhelms all rationality amongst their ilk. So the only conceivable solution for Britain and other European countries seems to be for the great unwashed masses to rise up and demand an end to open borders and demand deportations as necessary.

By the way, are you following the goings-on in Northern Ireland of late? It’s ugly stuff, but the Irish have had enough — an alleged attempted beheading of a local man in the middle of the street in broad daylight by a Sudanese Muslim immigrant may have been a bridge too far. Stay tuned.

Tommy Robinson, free speech advocate and vocal critic of Muslim grooming/rape gangs in Britain, once said something to the effect that his country’s best hope for pushing back was with its soccer hooligans because in an essentially feminized Britain, they were the only ones with the nerve to take it to the streets. One would wish that in an advanced democracy, such unruly action would not be necessary and that results could instead be gotten through voting. Unfortunately, too many advanced democracies have degenerated into social laboratories for the inconceivably naive and foolish ideas of ivory tower-dwelling intellectuals—and voting be damned. They — the ruling class — know best, end of story. And they are too ubiquitous to simply vote out.

There’s not too much that the Trump administration can do to save Europe from itself, though by all means it should continue to ridicule the Euro-effetes who are basically little more than a doormat to advancing Islam.

As for historian Schama . . . Hey, maybe read a history book, dude. Preferably one that hasn’t had a woke rewrite to shoehorn it into acceptability by diversity-obsessed intellectuals. And maybe mull over the commonsensical idea that not all immigrants and diasporas are morally equal or desirable for host countries. And maybe look at a chart of costs vs. benefits when it comes to mass Islamic immigration. And if the column under “benefits” doesn’t have anything besides ethnic cafes, but the “costs” column is heavily weighted with grooming/rape gangs, demands for sharia law, jihad-preaching mosques everywhere, a general attitude of Islamic supremacy, and zero gratitude to the hosts, then maybe take all that into account.

I don't think that lecturing elected leaders of other sovereign nations is a particularly effective way of getting them to change. Bosses don't like to be contradicted in public.

Excellent post, Greg! And Schama deserves all the humiliation sent his way. Good job!

You're right, it won't be effective, but it's just so deserved. And maybe it might help spark pushback from the citizens of those countries.

Thanks, Susan. Unfortunately, guys like Schama can't really be humiliated because in their intellectual arrogance, they can't conceive they could be wrong about anything.

It's not for the leaders, it's for the people, just like in America today.
