Press One for English

This is a short rant.

I'm annoyed when you have to press one for English and two for Spanish when you call someplace. The default should be that you get an English message but have to press a button if you need Spanish. (Actually, the default should be that a human answers the phone in English, but we're long past that point.)

But at the Super Bowl halftime show, you couldn't even press one for English. You had to listen to Bad Bunny in Spanish. No choice. So I am told, I didn't watch it. Could not have been forced to watch it.

When the NFL starts doing a classical halftime, then I'll tune in. Think how grand it would be to listen to the Triumphal March from Verdi's Aïda, Handel's "La Réjouissance," or Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture at the Super Bowl instead.

End of rant.

1812 Overture at the Super Bowl would be awesome. Especially if they used cannon.

You wouldn't want to hear some of Dumb Bunny's lyrics translated to English.

Typical rap misogyny, racism, potty mouth, etc.

How grand it would have been for the Super Bowl show to celebrate America's 250th anniversary. Bad Bunny was a middle finger extended to you and me.

Well, didn't watch the Superbowl thereby avoiding halftime entirely. Do they still have those annoying endzone messages to STOP HATE?

Just wanted to mention that in my neck of the woods the phone messages do default to "press two" for Spanish. I guess it says "two" so folks don't automatically press the one unnecessarily to get English. Come to think of it I had to call Synchrony Bank the other day and their message defaulted to the Spanish option also.

A Super Bowl stadium would provide so much opportunity for an innovative presentation of classic music!

One of my favorite renditions of the 1812 Overture is ten years ago "flash mob" in (I think Spain) that, even without cannon, uses the physical space effectively, with the brass up on a balcony making an entrance that is spectacular in part because of the physical layout. [Sure, it's not a technically perfect performance, but when those brass suddenly appear on the balcony, it's hard not to get chills.]

The physical layout of a football stadium would provide so much opportunity to set out spectacle for a classical half time performance.

I don't watch football, but if I found out that something like the 1812 overture would be the half-time show, I'd at least check in for that!
