A decade or-so ago, my 16 year-old son decided he wanted to build a large outdoor Menorah (Chanukiah) for his non-Jewish high school. For some inane reason possibly linked to an ecumenical spirit, the administration permitted the unlicensed and unsupervised construction and implementation of what are effectively molotov cocktail torches.

A good idea is rapidly being institutionalized! Our family (including adopted kids) lit this year in Maryland, the Midwest, Texas, and Jerusalem!

The design is unique to #2 son - it is not quite the same as any other in use, including those by Chabad Lubavitch.

This post was promoted to the Main Feed at the recommendation of Ricochet's members.

We have the large public Chabad menorahs in Santa Monica (also known as "Simcha Monica") and seeing them up and lit this year in particular was very moving.

    Thanks for the post, iWe.
