Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
For discussion among those who consider the United States of America your home: What meal did you want first upon returning after an extended time abroad?
My curiosity was prompted by reports that former United States Marine Robert Gilman has been freed from Russia after being held for four years, and his first request was for a “great cheeseburger.”
His comment brought to mind how our daughter, upon returning home after several months studying in England during college (approximately 2006), requested to be taken immediately to a retro-50s style diner near the airport that served burgers, fries, milkshakes, and pies.
Obviously this is a much less trying circumstance than being held prisoner in Russia, but there is something about food being an important marker of “home.”
So, if America is your home, and you have been outside the States for an extended amount of time: 1) Was there a food that you craved immediately upon your return to the USA, and 2) what was it?

No answer from me. My diet is too restricted by allergies and other auto-immune diseases for me to be able to indulge in the things I would want to eat anyway. In a sense, I have been "in another country" for decades, and no return is possible.

That will be my last meal request, when the Commies send us off to the Gulags.
Of course, they are commies, so we'll the best I can get is a tofu patty and oat milk.

I worked overseas with ExxonMobil my entire 34 year career. I always craved a hamburger or a ribeye steak upon return home. US beef is the best - hamburgers overseas never tasted good. The only place I ever had a good hamburger outside the USA was at the Marriot Hotel in Surabaya, Indonesia. That was a very pleasant surprise.

Yep
Yep
Nope.
I do however recall relishing the breakfast I had in the Miami airport after returning from nine months in South America. My favorite meal is breakfast, and foreigners hardly get it - the idea of it I mean.
