While I’m an Eastern European mongrel, the lovely Mrs. E is an Irish girl through and through…from her sea-green eyes to her fondness for a lovely pint. Suffice it to say that St Patrick's Day is a thing in our house. There is already a corned beef in the crock pot, and The Quiet Man is queued up for later this evening. Unfortunately, there’ll be no lovely pints … I’m on the wagon per Dr.’s orders. (Sacrifices must be made.) Though I am wearing my “You can always tell an Irishman. But you can’t tell him much.” sweatshirt.
Regardless. From our house to yours, have a great St Patrick's Day.

And the same to you! Personally I am totally boring English, but living on the Erie Canal there are plenty of old-line Irish families around. I went to college in Seneca Falls, which was very Irish Catholic. Many of the towns along the canal had Irish who came over to work on it, stayed, and became masons or farmers. The famous Medina Sandstone was quarried by Irish workers, mostly. In Lockport there is a beautiful church made of Medina Sandstone with a metal cross on the peak of the steeple. The story is, the bravest of the Irish masons climbed up the wall, shinnied up the steeple and bolted the cross in place, then made his way down safely...and the next day, during the celebratory parade, he fell and broke his arm.

No, seriously Erin. You’ve had a snootful. You’re a hazard to navigation already.
